Just bought a 110 on an 02 plate and the gears are a little whiney when you first take off, this goes when it is warm. Also 1st and reverse difficult to select when cold - should I be concerned;)

you might want to get the oil changed just in case the wrong type has been put in

Sounds like wrong oil to me. The question is was it put in there by accident or to cover up something?

I agree with checking the oil first, if that’s ok, does the gears engage ok with the engine off? If yes the clutch might not be disengaging properly, the first motion shaft splines might not be clean allowing the boss to slide or the spigot bush is somehow snagging and continuing to turn the first motion shaft, and of course the clutch hydraulics after a few pumps of the pedal it might be disengaging the clutch better.
All this doesn’t account for the noise!!
