Hi All,
I've got an Ex Mil 110 with absolutely nothing in the back, and I'm looking for some ideas and inspiration as to what to do with it.

I was thinking of a Bench seat with lap belts just in case I need to transport more than one passenger, but that wouldn't be a regular occurrence, so didn't want to take up the space with seats that would be unused 99% of the time. I occasionally also need to move big things so want to keep the space relatively free. So, something versatile would be great.

I've seen a few vehicles at a show, but other than the expedition vehicles, most people just had empty space.

Anyone got anything they've done already who wants to share, or people with some plans of what they would like to do, if they had the time to do it, please feel free to also throw your ideas into the mix.

Currently, I'm not sure what I want to do, but as in most things, I think I will be able to narrow that down by hearing what others have done, and being able to go, I like that, that would work, or that's not for me, etc.

Thanks in advance!!

I have 2 bench seats on one side, the bottoms fold up giving most of the space back.

Alternatively you could put a drawer at the back with a storage space near the front, with a false floor level with the top of the wheel boxes.

Wow - that's a big draw!! Modern full extension draw runners are a godsend aren't they! Load of good organization in there too, I wonder how long I could keep that tidy for :)

Thanks for the pictures, (I'm assuming that it's not your rover, as you said you had seats in yours, so thanks for looking it out for me :)

And on further inspection it's two different rovers, as the smaller one hasn't the windows in the back like the bigger one

No problem, mines same as yours a standard empty GS 110. I like the look of the draws but I occasionally Chuck people or items in the back which mean keeping it empty. There are other options;
1) get a radio table and modify it into a storage thing.
2) look at the utility landys, you can box off one or both wheel boxes and put access in from the outside (hard top only)
3) you could essentially put a tool chest or drawer thing in the front half of your load bed, leaving the rear half fit for people to sit on benches.
4) get some ammo boxes, bolt them to the wheel boxes and if necessary modify them to be lockable
5) fit better side lockers, you can get enclosed ones that will keep things drier and cleaner
6) I’ve seen people mount a compressor in a side locker, good for pumping up tires etc

if I find any pics I’ll post them

Awesome, thanks...
Yeah, I was looking at the side locker situation, and thinking that they could be simply fitted out with something to make them more usable, and potentially more secure...
A compressor, that's a good shout! I guess some thought would have to be given to waterproofing it somehow or remembering that water should only be welly deep for fording, and not those ones that are over the bonnet!! :)

Yeah, pictures if you find any!

Yeah, we used to have spare fuel in the side bins "back in the day" (swing the lamp and pull up and sandbag!)
I was thinking that in normal circumstances, there would be a petrol station near enough not to need that in the UK.

I've been looking at the fold up seats in pictures, I think that could be an option for one side, and keep the other side free for 'stuff', I'll have to get some plans done in excel to see what I can put where, and make sure that I don't put them too far forward or backward in the space. Maybe get some Ply cut at B&Q to help with sound reduction and heat loss (insulate between)...

Is that your FFR in the picture before the wing pod pictures, looks like it's the wader variant. I nearly got a winterised wader that had been with the Marines in Norway, but there was just too much work on it to make it viable for me. Also, you never know what they've been upto in those sorts of trucks, or rather, you do...
"Hold your breath lads, we're going under!!"

Yeah it’s an FFR, and I think the black stuff is the waterproof bag for the radio equipment.

Waders and Winter Waders are very desirable, but most often have waded a few times from landing craft to a beach and back. I think that’s there primary use for wading. Winter ones may also have been driven on very salty roads. Rust and corrosion will likely be an issue, chassis rails, doors and bulkhead will have been filled with salt water so rot from the inside and all the fixings will be stiff and corroded. However after a thorough tidy up they are nicely spec’d landys.

OK - After a fair bit of looking around at what other people have been doing in the back of their 90s and 110s I came across this thread by chrisyleigh

Some really great ideas here, and some pictures too, which has been very informative.

It has inspired me to do something similar, I'm tempted to have the base concertina onto a storage box next to the bulkhead, but I like the way that the Ply has been carpeted gives it a less "rustic" feel.
I was also looking for some aluminium edges that clip together (like T&G or click flooring) instead of hinges, and to just stack the sheets on the storage box (and strap them down)… I've seen them somewhere, but don't know what they would be called, and searching hasn't turned anything up - so if anyone knows what I mean and can point me in the right direction, that would be helpful.

I'm looking at 18mm ply, and raising it high enough above the floor to have space for storage boxes to keep things tidy, as well as clear the rear bench (which I have yet to get).
I have seen that a few people have been using the self inflating mattress, and have seen a reasonable one on Amazon, and I would be looking to make the platform to support that.

eventually a rear facing couple of seats over the batteries are planned

stable matting :)
£40 a big square. took two to do the back with a lot of off cuts because it wasn't flat. Does a good job of sound deadening. give you dimples in your bum if you're sat on it for too long though :)

I'm not sure whether you are recommending the bum dimples or not :):):)
If you dont like the dimples use the other side and then you will have stripes :D
I have a peice of stable matting on the floor of mine but the rest of it is just bare with 4 single fold up seats.
