Hi all - I'm replacing my 110 rear diff pan later today, although I've heard that it's not worth bothering with the new gasket as they don't really do a lot. Can anyone confirm this? I was toying with using some sort of silicon sealant.
Cheers!

If it was me I would use a gasket, for what it costs (a quid or whatever), is it worth not using one and it leaking;);););)

Use a gasket, and it's worth it to buy some proper sealant like Hylomar. Silisnot is not reliable in contact with oil. Save it for caulking the bath.

You do get a special sealant for them land rover do have a part number for it. Its the same when you take a sump of it is mostly a form of instant gasket.
As said silicon is for sealing the shower it does not like being submerged in water or oil and will fall of straight away.

I buy a tube of it from the local motor factors it is just like a small tube of silicon sealant and costs about £6

i havent used gaskets before when i removed diffs always sealant and not had any leaks

silicone is fine as long as its suitable everything is now sealed with rtv silicone sealant just get oil and temp resistant
