So.....
My 92 110 has a full puma bulkhead and dash fitted, and I noticed the wires and button etc were fitted for the heated windscreen.

Drivers side is wire is earthed, checked with a meter.
With engine running, press button, relays click and get a voltage reading on the passenger side wire.

But a second later it cuts off and the light on the button goes out. Anyone got any info on it?

Is it controlled by a body control module etc? Could it be shutting down as its missing a run signal?

Any help would be great

When you say “92 110” is that with a 200tdi engine, or a ringed/rung Puma, on a 92 plate?

It's a 92, originally a 200tdi. Now a 3.5slt

It has had a puma bulkhead and dash fitted. With a receipt from a breakers.

So now I have justified myself, can you be of any assistance? Or do you need further investigate my intergety? :)

Personally, I couldn’t give a **** if it was a ringer.

Do you have a BCM fitted, or just the bulkhead? What wiring did you fit? I’m not familiar with that engine, and it’s associated wiring, but I would expect the heated screen to be controlled by a simple timer relay. Can you see any numbers on the relay that is being controlled by the switch?

Tbh, I'm not sure if it has the bcm fitted, I think it's there as the full puma fuse board is, I didn't fit it, and I'm just finding my way around it.
Just wondered if there was any common faults to save me time and point in the right direction, but I think it'll be out with the meter and bits of plastic everywhere!

If I were you, I would rewire it using either a dedicated timer relay, or a standard high current relay. Mine is wired in with a calling switch, controlling a 70A relay, all on 4 or 6mm and 40A fuses (I think).

If you can see the relay that is switching, find a part number and see what it is and how it’s wired. The easies option may be to swap that for a timer relay that will work with the wiring you already have. It may not be possible, so you may have to modify some wiring.

These diagrams might help. They are for the 2.2 puma engined landys, 2012 on. Might be different for 2.4 puma but don't have those diagrams.

Cheers guys,
Looking at those diagrams, I think it could be as simple as I'm missing the engine run signal,
If it's more complex, I may just rewire it, sure I've got a timer relay kicking about from my old mk6 transit, probs be a week or 2 until I get a look at it with work etc, I'll post up how I get on.

No need to completely rewire it, or use a different timer.

The Defender has used the same timer relay since the heated windscreen was introduced on the 2002 Model Year TD5.

On the TD5, terminal 6 of the timer relay is taken to the oil pressure switch, in order to determine that the engine is running.

So looks as if it is just missing the run signal, so I've just ordered up the heated screen.
The original was broken anyway and not like there is a massive difference cost wise.

Thanks for the help ;)

Incidentally if anyone is interested, I found out after speaking to Martin from futuranet the the run signal on the puma is taken from the tacho.
