Hi!
I'm, a newbie so hello all.. Always fancied a landie and have just found a likely project.. I'm just not sure how much it's worth .

It's a 1987 110 pick up
2.5 na diesel with a cracked block
All other mechanicas ok pre cracked block
110000miles
Body work OK
No v5
Chassis and bulk head good
Its an ex farm truck and I know the farmer
He has said to make an offer but I'm not sure how much

Looked online at similar vehicles but can't find much .
I was thinking of around £1500
What do you guys think?

Welcome,
Cracked block drops the price but you can swap it for a 300tdi anyway as the 2.5 N/A is a bit pedestrian. No V5 could be an issue so worth checking with DVLA. If its last MOT was a long time ago then again another price drop. I'd go for a cheeky £1k offer.

Ok thanks for that. Its a typical farmers story. It was replaced with a newer model years ago and just used around the fields carrying hay and general light duties until the block went. If I don't rescue it it will become another rotting farm relic. The farmer has no clue where the v5 is probably been eaten by the dog . I thought it was fairly easy to apply or a replacement??

If you apply for a new V5, the DVLA will write to the last known keeper anyway so it would be worth the former keeper writing to the DVLA letting them know he has sold it to you.

If it's been a farm vehicle I'd be amazed if the chassis and bulkhead are really are ok, You're likely looking at a full chassis, body and engine rebuild. That's a lot of cash and so will not be worth it unless you get it for next to nothing. Don't let sentiment rule your head. Unless you've got throw away amounts of cash. :)

You should be able to pick up a 2.5 N/A engine for not a lot of money as there are plenty lying around from tdi conversions.
As others have said, a tdi conversion would be more sensible as 2.5 N/A engines are a little bit 5hit..
If it has been used / sat on a farm for any period of time, I would take a lot of convincing that it is not totally rotten, have a very good look at the chassis, particularly the rear.
If it has no V5 make sure that the registration number displayed on it actually belongs to the vehicle and that it is on the DVLA web site, if it is ex-military and has been used on a farm it may have never been registered with DVLA.
Once you have done the above, have another good look for rust.

To get a new v5 you need to get a v5c form, I think you can get one from a post office. You need to send it off with a cheque for £25. It takes 3 or 4 weeks to get the new v5 from the DVLA. It's a simple process, I've done it a couple of times. Get the new v5 before you replace then engine, then send it off again when the replacement engine is in. If what you say is correct, that if you don't buy it, it will turn to scrap, then it's not worth much more than scrap value now. My offer would be less than £500 and I might go up to £500 if you think it is salvageable. The farmer will probably be just glad to get rid of it.
