Hello all.

Need some expertise help!

The car in questions is a 1995 110, 117K TDI.

As we were driving up the road from London to Manchester yesterday the car began to overheat, right up in the red. I stopped, checked the water and all was fine, checked the oil and all was OK, checked that the fan was working and all fine.

After 15 mins it dropped to half, so set off again, within 15 mins it was back up in the red. Even with the heaters on full blast, the temp didn't drop.

Can anyone help with a diagnosis on common faults etc?

Thanks,

Jon

Sounds like you've either got an air-lock, your radiator is clagged up or your water pump is fooked.

or the temperature sender is knackered. Did the engine feel hot, could you get near the pipes?

Is there antifreeze in it? If it was that hot and dropped off in 15 mins then i would suspect the sender first.

Hi Boydy.

Engine didn't feel hotter than usual I could get near the pipes yes. Anti freeze was in yeah and the water in the water resivour although hot, didn't burn me when I tested it (by dipping my finger in).

Where is the sender?

Cheers pal.

Jon

im guessing you've got a 300tdi...

Its in the front of the engine, in the water pump housing. Theres a wire running to it. ill see if i can find a pic...
