lots of handy depth markers there.

local mountain rescue squad got stuck in flood water when they passed too close to a stuck car and their bow wave bounced back and straight into the air intake- no raised intake ! ..... game over.... irony being it was a land rover it bounced off :D

obvious those stone fences are holding the water, making roads into lakes. Looks like they need drain tubes in the low spots, then there would no be so much flooding on the roads

In some places those tubes are fitted through the walls ... but depending on the soil type these can fill full of slit, mud, peat & leaves so may not be suitable ...

road crew then needs to make sure that they are not blocked then, and in working order.

thor you speak with alot of authority for someone who has not personally seen how the flooding has happened in the uk......the water on the road - is level with the fields around in almost all cases.

as someone whos been all over this area during the floods moving sand bags and pumping out mates houses ive seen whats going on with both eyes wide open .

I was commenting from what the poster posted, when youtube 1 shows flooded road in low spot with a stone wall on either side. and in 1 spot the stone wall was leaking water onto the road holding back what looked like a lake. If water was not held back like that seems as if there would be less problems. So my comments was addressed to this post

the water on the other side of the wall was potentially higher - there are several cases where this has been.

such as 500 m from my house. where the water on the rhs is higher than the road and flowing straight across and out the otherside....

walls work both ways how ever i would rather ford static water held in place by the roads/ditches/walls than fast cross flowing water taht will sweep the roads away/debris onto the roads/vehicles away.

In the vid there were spots where the land had slipped and partially covered the road with debris ... never a good thing ...

Mate the councils don't even fix potholes in the roads round my way with any type of speed so unplugging holes in walls? Yeah right
