think time has come to replace my 110 chassis. took the rear wheels of this afternoon to check brake pads, had a quick poke at the chassis and quite a few holes appeared. ive done a quick search and found a company called Shielder Chassis they seem to be quite cheap compared to the others. just wonder if anyone has had any experience with them and whats the quality like.

Not that much cheaper........... and Richards has been around alot longer and has more to offer. Not saying shielder isn't any good, but for a 100quid difference I would go with richards, as they offer more options and a long track record.

I hadn't even heard of Shielder Chassis, the main two suppliers are Marslands and Richards chassis'
You hear good and bad about both, but I have heard more bad about Richards than Marslands of late.
That said I have used Richards myself several times and haven't encountered any problems, always been happy and will continue to use them.
Their is also designa chassis, but you don't really hear much about them nowadays.

I have a designa chassis, no problems with mine even after sitting for about 15 years in a barn unused. Thicker than normal at 3 mm.

Shielder Chassis are in Northern Ireland, don't know if that affects the delivery costs to the mainland, could be a better bet if you are in Northern Ireland or the ROI.

Ordered mine from Richards on 24/04/17, emailed them for progress on 06/07/17 to be told it was on the shop floor being built, called today 18/07/17 for progress to be told their laser cutter has broken and they are waiting for a part from Switzerland, sales promised me they would email the progress through to me today by close of business but expected it would not be ready until August, still waiting at 19:40 for the progress report. so far I have waited patiently for 13 weeks, now starting to get a little peeved as the garage are going to have to reschedule the fitting again. If anyone knows of some one with a new 1985 110 station wagon chassis in stock drop me a line.

My advice - don't use Richards unless its a real long term project.

You have had it 4 years, and it was bought as spares or repairs from what I remember. Maybe the chassis is why it was sold that way.:p:p

Cheers

If you have a issue with break downs and waiting for parts, don't own a defender then

Current chassis is sound apart from the hard to reach body cross member and top of rails around it, which will need work in the next year or two, the decision to replace with galvanised was to extend the life of the vehicle BEFORE work became necessary, it has just passed its MOT with no advisories or warnings!:p

So , am I wrong in thinking you are complaining about something that is a NON issue regarding keeping your motor on the road, at least for a year or so.

Cheers

No wonder British Manufacturing is dying, we accept shoddy service and expect poor quality for top price. The Landy is my project and fun, certainly not bought for reliability until I have finished sorting it out.

Thanks for all the replys, im going to have a look at a galvanised rolling chassis tomorrow. its got tdci axles front and back. the chassis was a 2014 chassis which has been blasted and galvanised new engine mountings fitted for a 300tdi. the only question I have would the chassis fit my 1996 110 been that the chassis is of a 2014 model.

just had a quote from shielder chassis, £1800 delivered for my 110. seems really cheap compared to Richards or marsland but its all about saving a few quid. On there website says there manufactured in the uk. properly order one as its about £600 cheaper which I can send on other stuff on the landy.

Richards chassis are good quality BUT their delivery times suck, mine arrived six weeks later than expected, I am advised locally that this is not unusual for them. Work finally underway on mine, should be back next week on new chassis.

If its a proper 2014 chassis I think technically the whole car will now be classed as a 2014 motor and if it was mine I would be asking for the 2014 v5 and having myself a much newer car!

If it was a proper 2014 chassis I would be worried that it was stolen.

I don't think it works like that. If I put a new chassis under my 1977 series 3 it won't make it a 2017 model.
