Hi everyone, I've just bought a 110 defender needing a complete rebuild. I'm just going through the engine choices available, any thoughts from yourselves on the cummins 6bt and merc 606 would be a help, also gearbox options.
Thanks all

6BT has been used a lot, do a search on LZ, @aaronmorris rebuilt a 90 with one.

No idea about the merc, but I know some racers use them ...

Search @aaronmorris and his defender build threads, he's done three or more I think, one of which is using a 6BT where he discusses the gearbox and mods he had to make to fit it and the transfer box.

Paul Is right, I have previously done it, my advice would be to join the Cummins Landrover group on facebook. Their is lots of good people and advice on their, including the chap behind the kits available, Reece.
Gearbox choices you have 2 really, the zf s5 42 or the spicer. Of the two the zf is the more commonly used.
Adapters are available for either to convert to take the lt230 lr transfer box.
It is also best to use a 1.003 ratio transfer box for the best gearing, although not easy to find nowadays, although the gear sets are available to purchase and build into your own transfer box.
