Hi,

Thinking of upgrading my suspension to start a little off road driving, any ideas recommendations tips/advice please. Also a rough cost guide would be appreciated too.

Why do you need/ want to upgrade the suspension. Are you carry a huge load ? Is the suspension now fitted weak.

Land Rover make a very good suspension for the 110 and 110 station wagon that will see the vehicle through most things.

Frankly I wouldn't be wanting to off road a 110 at a pay and play site. Or try to trial one.

What's wrong with offroading a 110?

Please there is a huge difference between "off roading" and laning.
Off road is just that. Mud plugging and generally damaging the surface.
Laning shoud be a nice gentle drive in the countryside.

My Defender rarely goes off road, generally if I manage to get to mashall at a trial.

Standard suspension on a nice public road. An all up weight of over 3.400kg. There was a lot of water and fuel on board.
No I'm not driving :)

They are too wide for laning and can't keep on the road :).

Not too wide for the ditch though:eek:

You said about not wanting to off road a 110 at a pay and play Site. I asked what was wrong with that?

Now you are quoting the difference between laning and off roading.

So again, in response to your comment that you yourself phrased, what is wrong with offroading a 110 at a pay and play site?

so let me get this right, you believe that we shouldn't take a 4x4 off road vehicle....

Off road.

:fish::lol::der::wtf:

Trial, possibly not, but more because of the lack of manoeuvrability due to the length than anything else, they possibly wouldn't be competitive.

I know 2 or 3 110s in varying forms that go to P&P

I have used both my 110's at p&p sites. No probs at all. Trials I did try once but with the turning circle of a cruise ship it's kind of pointless.

Mine has std suspension as well. You don't need to change it.

Can't wait for 110Woman to see this :D NO cake for him I reckon....

As to suspension upgrades as has been said std is fine for most things if you feel the need to lift then anything over 2" becomes very expensive with extended brakelines, wideangle props and castor corrected radius arms coming into play.

Nothing wrong with playing with a 110....You've missread me......

Nothing wrong with laning in a 110. Really it's the same width as a 90 ??? The 90 is only a shorter version of a 110.

It's only the turning circle that can make thing a little different.

Nothing difficult about a 110 Defender. I drive one as a regular driver.

anyhoo, in reply to the OP, Im looking at getting a bit more out of mine.
check out my thread on Droop travel.

depends on if you want a lift or not, I don't, its high enough when its my daily motor/family car, so I'm looking at a releasable anti roll bar, and some +5 shocks, extended brake lines, and dislocation cones, that, if I have read it right gives me extra travel to keep the wheels on the ground, and leave it at stock height.

There's not many places that I can't take my 110 hence being confused about the post. I've been to pay and plays, an RTV trial, towed vehicles up to the size of an arctic across muddy fields and snow and ice covered roads and also go laning and have always made it to where I wanted to be. If I see an obstacle that I'm not happy about driving then I won't drive it. It doesn't matter what the vehicle is that I'm in cos I still wouldn't have driven it. I also refuse to lead other people somewhere where I'm not happy driving my own vehicle too.

speaking of suspension I've just had to order a new pair of rear shocks as N/S rear has blown a seal.

That's my view as well

An awful lot comes down to two words

DRIVER ABILITY.

I'm hopeles on mud....

At least with standard suspension you should be able to get spares anywhere.
