Hi all. Not very good at this as usual you only come on these forums when you need help. So please be patient and any help/advise would be appreciated. The problem: My 96 Disco aover heated after the water pump pully seperated from the shaft ( a new replacement of less that an hours use), This has now been replaced. The problem is that every time I turn the ignition key to start the engine the main 100amp (alternator) fuse blows. Any advice? clean helpfull one would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Sniff

Yes removed and cleaned each one in turn and replaced. Please keep the questions coming even if u think its obvious, these are good memory joggers, in case I missed somethig..

Is there anything else that uses the same fuse that might be causing it to blow, ie the heat sensors

Replace the fuse but leave the alternator wires disconnected then run up and see if it blows. if it dosent then you know you have a short in the alternator

Hi guys to both question: Thanks for response: First tihing I checked was the battery connections. I am currently out of fuses and will have to get some tomorrow, and try again. Have disconnected the alternator ready for when I get new fuses.

#6- is there any thing elase that is powered by the same fuse?

Hi Hat hope you don't mind the reference. Thanks, it had crossed my mind that it could possibly be the starter but you are the first person to have this. Thanks. How can I check it?

remove main power cable from startermotor.

MAKE SURE IT IS WELL INSULATED BEFORE TURNING POWER ON!

oh - and disconnect battery first. To be honest, I dont think the starter motor is fused.

Get a copy of Rave.
