Oh, if you are keeping it standard it wont cost much at all, more or less just the donor vehicles, the 4x4 is born was a full rebuild replacing anything possible for the best.

can you weld/fabricate brackets? these will slow you up if cant as the out riggers will need moving, youd be better off tray backing or making it into a pick up.

And youl need an IVA as it will void your insurance as it wont be a disco any more aside from that when are you starting?

No he won't, as it would get more than 8 points. It would just be insured as a heavily modified disco

Muddytrax, just finished the DVD and have seen your thread - good luck with the project, looking forward to seeing how you get on!

"Might go a little over budget but at least I won't lose money on this, if I invested 2k into a disco I'd never see that back! "

guaranteed you will lose money......

Other issue is that your plates will flag "discovery" on the ANPR system and it wont look much like a disco.

sure if you can prove it still meets points all will be fine but PITA getting pulled. :tea:

looking at LRO magazine appears as long as I keep the chasiss stamp I can still keep the original reg number - might be able to apply for change of make and model on the log book? someone I know has said he thinks you may be able to just change logbook to 'landrover' and thats it.

and regarding losing money I've already lost a load which I am trying to get back off the welder who cocked up the work through small claims court, theres too much that still needs doing to the disco shell to lay out anymore on it.

Thank you very much! :) it has just gone over to my friends storage yard so work should be starting this month! first job being lifting the body selling as much as i can for spares and then purchasing bulkhead rear tub etc etc.

I will try and keep posting as many photos as I can :) no doubt it will take me a while!

Why won't it??

Disco chassis
Disco engine
Disco Suspension.
Disco axles
Disco transmission
Not a Monocoque bodyshell so not counted for changes to vehicle.

if you didn't want to winge, why buy a Landrover???
to convert it like your pic says, have you worked out the cost?
more outlay again if you cannot do it yourself,
i would think long and hard if i was you
good luck!!

Think outside the box ;)

I found a series 2 in a field for £150 on farming ads website. Good but would be a plasma cutter. 110 tub and cut the rear 10 inches off.

you got a good deal! :) I'm looking at buying either something with a rotten chassis that someone wants gone or just keeping a careful eye out on ebay and doing autojumbles! obviously a 109" 3 series cheap would be an ideal option!

yeah exactly I'm not building a monster truck I just want a reasonable looking 100" defender :)

I have help at hand regarding fabricating! I can weld as well and I have a 100" conversion onsite where I am doing mine to copy! :) should be starting this month :)
