Hello all,
Was wondering if any of you would NOT buy a td4 with 100,000 miles on clock. Its a 2001 FLRSH, good condition and just had a new transfer box fitted. Although no-one has a crystal ball, does anyone know what potential/likely problems I should expect from a plus 100,000 td4? or is it just a case of russian roulette?
Your comments would be welcomed immensley.
Thankyou in advance!

fink the engine can double that no probs . . . .but would allow fer a new vcu and prop bearing un bushes if the ird has bin changed thats a plus but need ta ask why, is it that the vcu is shot, other things are cv's oil change all round unless ya got history of motor, hope this elps ya. . . .:)

I concur. The engine has loads more lfe. But why the new IRD? You might have expected this in an early model (which were known for transmission problems) but should have been sported by the introduction of the TD4.

Check the VCU and other transmission components - instructions are repeated ad nauseum on this forum.

Cheers

Hi m8,
i got my TD4 (y reg) with 130000 on the clock with FSH.Since having it very little has gone wrong. She now has 150000 and is still going very well.If the price is right go for it.At the end of the day it all depends if it has had a hard life or not and how well it has been looked after.

Our Hippo has done 107k, had a new clutch & clutch slave cyl at 85K when we bought it, and I've just changed the siezed VCU but other than that it's been fine. TD4 lump seems bulletproof, just keep an eye on the drivetrain as other posters have said.

Ours was ex-fleet, so only had on-road motorway mileage (probably accounts for siezed VCU). Now does an 80-mile round trip to work plus horsebox towing duties with no problems.
