Hi all,
I am in the middle of doing the head gasket and timing belt on my dads 1999 Freelander and have hit a stumbling block.
I took the head off after loosening the timing belt and crankshaft pulley loosened off ok but bolt wouldnt come fully out, after much levering it did come out but took auxillery belt pully and timing belt crank pulley with it due to some odd rock hard glue / sealer all around the bolt threads.
Went to clean it all up for refit and found no woodruff key in the crank or similar slot in the inner pulley to align onto the crankshaft.
There is a cutout in the pulley and crankshaft but it isnt a tight fit and allows the inner pulley to still rotate around 1/4 turn so absolutley useless to align the crankshaft with the timing line for refitting the timing belt.
I cant find any other timing marks on say flywheel or locking pins or info on the net about this so need help
Is this normal? do i need a new pulley or is there a way to set the crankshaft with head off and lock it in place spot on so i can refit the head and set timing belt properly.
I usually do alot of bodywork and am capable of mechanical work but it is not my forte.
Cheers in advance for any help
