Hi All
Been reading how useless the 1.8 petrol freelander is. Just thought there may be a few good ones out there like mine. Ive owned her for six years and covered 85000 miles. She has run faultless and tows a 2 berth caravan without any problem. Just a few problems with the diff bushes and road noise from the rear tyres. Ive changed the oil regular and use castrol magnetec. Nothings dropped off or failed to work. Am i the only one????
Best regards
Butty

I have an S reg 1.8 Xei Hardtop, been the best most reliable motor i have owned just like any car its had wear and tear items replaced all the major bits work fine and ebay is a good source for parts. My local garage has said on numerous occassions that I have a good one.:) :) :)

The 1.8 k-series is the best part of my FL1. ;)

Having said that, if you own a k-series, expect to get your hands dirty at some point, its an engine for car enthusiasts.

If anything ever happens the FL1, I'll be ripping the unit out and dropping it into a Caterham

mine's been good 2.
only a few noises and little niggles that i've managed to sort out with the help from peeps on this forum, but nothing major that required tears and a garage

Yeah, I had mine for nearly a year now and still runs like a beauty!

The only trouble I had with my Freelander (not Gaylander to some of you freaks!) is when the Manifold cracked when I accidentally drove my Freelander 'a bit too fast' over a sharp road hump outside the Newport University!

Mine is ace, was nice and cheap to buy £550.

Was repaired by my own hand for a little over £273.00 and has covered 19,000 miles with only consumables (tyres, Brake pads / shoes / discs) and a noisy wheel bearing. CDL motor was replaced as well as rear diff mounts.

Overall I am still within £1000, inc purchase, restoration and two years running. (not including fuel)

I have splashed out £400 on stainless gear and £300 on flash alloys, but this was optional.

I find it more reliable than my father's 2004 Discovery 2 which has had endless problems despite a FLRSH and a sedate driver!!

I'll drive it until its BER and then break for spares and make my money back!!

Regards,

Steve
