Hi, new member struggling with my new to me Freelander 1.8 k series! There is an oily cable hanging down below the engine from the oil pump/filter. My problem is I cannot see where to plug it back in. I never had this problem with my series 3 which was a lot simpler. Please help.

Oh and ... Hello!
Jon

Ya gotta love landys. I think the lead which is plugged is the oil temp sender so if your not getting any red lights on the dash it might not be required. On my MGF the filter housing changed several times over the years and different oil temp sensors were used with different connectors.
And you might want to take a look at the cam seals and cam rail for the oil leak.

thanks for that! I bought it knowing there was an oil leak which being a series owner didn't worry me too much so I shall have a look at that it is electrics that scare me!

Compared to most modern cars the K series is pretty simple but I agree it is off putting when you find a spare lead which doesn't go anywhere. I had loads of issues getting the correct temp sender for my MGF and to be honest in the end I gave up as a non working oil temp gauge wasn't causing me any problems. Maybe not too sensible in a K series but the car is only worth around £500 so I didn't worry too much.

And try popping a leccy window switch off the passenger door to test if it is the switch is faulty only takes a few seconds.

I shall try the passenger switch when it is daylight thanks. Great to have answers so quick on this forum as a new member.

As I said in a previous thread only the truly stupid or ignorant buy K series Freelanders.
We need to stick together.
