So the Freelander has been with the mechanic now for three days and he now been checked from head to toe. The problem that caused the error code was a faulty connection on the fuel rail sensor. Fixed the connection and cleared the error code and this is now resolved.
The problem with the car loosing power still remains despite the whole fuels system having been checked and every possible sensor checked. The turbo also looks ok. The mechanic has some pretty hard core Bosch diagnostic tools so he is now in the process of meticulously checking all info on the computer as the engine runs while driving the car.
It is clear that the car is does not have power when hot. What is causing it is still a mystery although the mechanic this afternoon was considering re-checking the high pressure fuel pump although he did check it before.
At least I know that all the other systems in the car is in good health.
