Hello All,

Yesterday the fan/heater/blower gave up completely. Fortunately it was too cold so thought to have a look for the fuses first. No. 4 if not mistaken was ok, also the right res.. Then I had a look under the bonnet for the speed 4 one which was also ok, but I got a bit confused that it was either no. 3 or 4 was missing at 15A. Was the right one, second line when standing in front of the car. I thought to stuck a new one in which would be either engine management or air con, cooling fan, auto g-box. So am I right in assuming it was ok to put one in as the handbook shows them all plugged in or could there be a reason for not or would it be a problem if one in if not needed?

The other one that caught me was those three yellow cubes are not in either. It's a GS so maybe not needed, don't know. Anyone would have some info on it?

Amendment: It is odd though that always when coming from the garage something else gives up the ghost in this case air con fixed, fan gone, fixed it with some electronic spray for now, but the plug seems pretty loose.

Do any fan speeds work? The slow speeds are fed through a resistor which can fail. The fastest speed is different from the fuse, so will work fine if the resistor has failed.
 
No none worked anymore, even speed 4 not, that's why I thought a fuse, didn't know at that time that there two one in and one out. The resistor failed back in 2019 and got a new Valeo in, so hope that's not it again. The plug seems a problem with that rubber in front.

I've lost the 1 & 2 speeds on mine.

I'll have to dig out that resistor thingie from my parts car - iirc its accessible from the drivers footwell, will have to hunt around the threads to find info.

Might need to do it soon as Mrs Grumpy might want shot of the hulk if I score myself another one that I can get back on the road...

2000 Land Rover Freelander (L Series)

Beautiful Hippo for sale for PARTS OR REPAIR only. At the moment the car has blown cylinder head gasket. I had this car as a project car and the cylinder head gasket has been recently replaced and the head itself profesionally machined. However, it seems like 3 of the bolts have striped the thread in the cylinder block and become loose. The car will come with new helicoil-like inserts for the thread repair if you wish to go down that road and also with new head gasket. The engine has also NEW piston rings, cam belt with tentioners and near new clutch.

The 4wd system is currently of as it was a bit shaky and the VCU will need new balancing dumper and new bearings if you wish to put it back on. At the moment the car is 2wd. The VCU has been DIY serviced and the viscouse fluid replaced and it works pretty good. Wheels are not binding while turning but still works as 4wd. The IRD and rear diff were serviced as well, I have replaced all the bearings in it and put new oil. One new bearing for the gearbox as well. By the servicing, I got rid of most vibrations, yet while driving I still could feel a bit of vibration, probably new front driveshafts. The sunscreen mechanism and rails have rusted out completaly, but the chassie around te window itself seams pretty good, the window has been sealed from the top as well.

The car is movable, starts up roughly, than blows white smoke from the water that is being sucked in. Wouldn't recoment do drive it, could be towed though. Deregistered with WOF expired.

Might take the drive shafts and sun soof off the parts car to :rolleyes:
 
It'll be the resistor in the heater matrix takes about an hour to change because it's a bit of a fiddle to get old one out easier to get new one in though

Resistor You mean this one or is there another one? That took 5/10 minutes just pull it out, spray and put back in. Still think it's the plug for the fan that didn't connect properly, but as I had both out can't say for sure at the moment.

Any ideas on the missing fuse to see if it was really missing and the three maybe yellow cubes beside the fuses? Are those relays?

Take a picture and mark the items you're interested in.
Not all fuse and relay locations are used in every model though.
 
When asked if a relay or fuse should be fitted in blank spaces, I always think , if no one has taken them out and it worked before then it is probably correct as it is !!
