I was reading up on replacing the front ball joints and came across these two YouTube vids. It seems to make sense to me. I was thinking you could add a disc that sits on the tube to quickly ensure its straight, similar to the LR tool, rather than measuring.
The ball joints press in/out with a generic tool. You only need the alignment tool if they are out of alignment or you’ve loosened the bottom taper-collet on swivel hub - few have made their own tool so keep looking in searchbar
@Grrrrrr i would ask
Yes Grrrrr, MOT has run out and rubber on the lower O/S ball joint has gone. My MOT garage has put it as a minor for the last couple of years but last time he said he couldn't pass it next year. From just reading up on it looks like there is a chance of it requiring adjustment given the subtleties of different makes. I was worrying about it as I dont feel confident enough to judge it by eye but for 20 notes it worth giving it a go just for peace of mind..Sounds like a plan. You doing yours?
As others have said, if the adjustment is not touched you should be OK, it was on mine although I did check.Yes Grrrrr, MOT has run out and rubber on the lower O/S ball joint has gone. So far I have managed to complete step 3 of of the drive shaft and hub assembly section, "Remove brake disk shield". Haven't done anything for the last few days due to rain and I am now away until the 31st. The weather at the moment looks OK for next weekend I'll give you a shout when I am down the the ball joint removal.Sounds worth a go. Let me know when you try it and if I'll pop over and watch. Or you can bring it here if you need somewhere flat and safe to work.
Thanks Datatek, for the cost I have ordered his bearing and a piece of tube so I can have peace of mind. As I have said before I feel like that lad from Harry Potter who always says "Why does it always happen to me".As others have said, if the adjustment is not touched you should be OK, it was on mine although I did check.
