You should be getting more than 12.5v when the engine is running. if all your lights, radio etc are off with engine runing it should be a little higher.

Depends on state of charge of battery. Engine running charging a completly flat battery will be just over 12 volts. With working alternator and decent battery you should get just over 13 volts. Depends also on what type of regulator you have. If you have one of these fancy battery managment systems then it depends what state of charging it is in.

As the engine is running I doubt you battery is completly flat (and I do mean dead flat) then this figure seems a bit low.

Where are you taking the voltage reading from? If it is the battey terminals then make sure there is no oil or grease between the meter and terminals. If it's on the end of a long cold wire then you should expect it to be a bit low
 
engine off , no lights ect on and the volt meter is showing 12.49
not having any problems just checking
