Hello all, I’m doing a protracted refurb on my 78 s3 and done the cardinal sin of not enough photos. Could someone please explain how the wiring should be,specifically around the solenoid. I can’t work it out. Sorry.

Petrol? Standard starter?

Solenoid on the battery tray. White (& red?) wire from ign switch to solenoid. Battery - fat red to solenoid and another fat red to starter.

Thx yeah got it. Was connecting to the wrong space connector.

So it not clicks and then the cable get really hot and starts to smoke. I did take it off and test and work off the car. Could the fly wheel be jammed or similar how best to test.

Plugs out, out of gear, turn over by hand. Starting handle or socket on the crank bolt.

Cranks by hand fine. Petrol 2.15 by the way.

If it cranks by hand,all is free.

Have you used the same starter motor? & is that free ?

Yes same as before. Could it be a bad earth strap to chassis? Should I be able to hook up a battery directly to it to test?

Use a set of jump leads to test.
Also can use the leads as extra earths,then if all good just put some more on
