Morning,

Looking at the GAP IID G3 for my beasty (2009) and have questions. Realise they are VIN locked from GAP but not sure from other sources?

Also aware that my model has the 3-button key fob so some of the out of state options are not available (lower window / ride height etc from key fob) but can the other car configuration options be used?

I don’t see it in the list available and the main dealer wanted many buckets of gold to do it, but I’d like to have automatic central locking enabled, is this possible?

It looks a considerably competent piece of hardware, probably dangerous in the hands of an idiot, but is it worth it?

Ok, so what’s SDD then?
That's the jlr tool. It's very good but also a faff to learn

It looks like you need a Win7 laptop? IID runs on an app.
I’ll read the thread and see if I run out of botherds.

Yep - you need a laptop to run SDD - an old lappy will work fine. And you need a cable to connect obviously. It’s the dealer system.

Depending on how much work you want to do, just find someone local with it to break reconfigure the bits you want doing?

There are a couple of ‘places’ on the web that sell a reconfigured old laptop with the SDD system preloaded for you, for prolly less doll-hairs than GAP.

We have 1 and find it very good. (2011)
If its a new tool it will have to be registered to you and your VIN.
If its secondhand then it will need a change of owner and a new licence for your VIN (cost for that?)

As for what you want to change i would say if JLR say they can change it for you, then the GAP will do it. But a quick mail to GAP with the question and I am sure they would confirm what you can change, they are good at responding to e-mails.

Is it worth it?
I would say yes, although we dont use it often it has saved its cost over the time of owning it. Also it is fairly easy to use. No leads, laptops needed.

SDD is good to and alot cheaper but seems a bit difficult to use in some cases. I have not used it.

GAP is about £60 to add extra VINs from memory.

Does most of what I wanted but does struggle with some things. Programming keys for one.

Also doesnt seem to read module info right on my 06 Vogue. Whether this is right or not I don't know. For example, not sure if there's a firmware update for a lot of the modules or not to enable things like 3 flash indicators etc.

Was easy to edit config data to disable cold checking of bulbs to stop led bulbs flickering. Also turned off and on other things to make life a bit nicer and to my taste.

It also accesses the TD6 ecu reliably, cleared codes in the LCM etc when other generic readers wouldn't.

Best bit, runs off my phone and only a small BT dongle so easy to carry and fast to use.

Go for the Gap it will do every thing you want and more, I have one for my 2008 it had drive away locking and one press on remote to unlock drivers door and double press for all doors when I got it and soon had that changed (cant be doing with it ) also enabled wipers to intermittent when you stop at lights, few other things to do lights and park heating which I cant think of right now.. Yes its not cheap but they command a high price second hand if and when you sell the car.
