The mother in law has just bought a disco 5 to replace her early disco 4 and is now worried about security on it as several land rover have been stolen form her village recently in car key burglaries. I know this will have been asked before but I am looking for security recommendations to give here some piece of mind.

I am very familiar with the physical aspects of security (disc lock etc) and trackers from my defender and series vehicles. But it has been mentioned you can get immobilisers, ghost immobiliser was one mentioned, but I have no experience with them or electronic vehicles in general as my limit is a td5 and even that is a bit new!

What do people recommend, at this point with price being irrelevant?

IMO a D5 should be safe enough with it's factory settings as long as the owner takes care of it's keys to not be lost no need for add-ons... that's quite valid for any Discovery with factory fitted alarm even the early ones

Ghost are good. Used these on the golf and no problems(except when the tyre fitter drove too far from the linked phone and it cut out)

If that is the case why are so many of them so easily stolen? Local land rover specialist said current JLR are one of the easiest cars available to steal and recommended the extra precautions hence it falling to me to find out more.

Switch off keyless entry, it stops the doors being unlocked by people using scanners.
Later model Land Rovers have all had extra security added during software updates making them difficult to steal hence insurance premiums lowering. Ghosts are excellent, making it virtually impossible for thieves even if they get the keys
