The transfer box has been whining for a while now and I am too old to do this myself, my question is while they have the transfer case out does it make sense to have a new clutch and rear crank seal at the same time, is it much more work to remove the gearbox I suppose is what I am asking

I will double the work (hours).
You may also discover that the flywheel has a relief in it so will also need changing.
Is it worth it ?
Yes (IMHO)

Don't get an LOF power clutch, if you must, the roadspec, but preferably a Valeo.
Do buy the HD clutch release fork and bearing...

If you are paying to have the work done I would not bother personally. As said above you at least double the labour maybe more if the floor needs to come up as well. Unless your clutch is showing sings of being on the way out, or the seal is leaking I wouldn't bother. you can also do a clutch change by pulling the engine out rather than moving gearbox's so even if it needs doing at a later date it is not necessarily repeated work. How many miles does your clutch have on it?

I would echo the above, fit HD fork and bearings and go for the valeo clutch plate. Personally I like the HD 130 clutch, but the standard is also good.

Thank you both for your answers I thought it would save a lot of work but obviously it doesn’t. I will only get the transfer box done, the clutch isn’t slipping and the rear seal only a very small leak, I was quoted £1300 for a new Ashcroft transfer box including fitting so will go with that. I do less than 3000 miles a year now most of that around fields at 20mph the clutch has done around 86000, I bought it new 35 years ago. Again thanks for your advice chaps.
