I see this thread has calmed down somewhat over the years. One of the main defenders of the Freelander name @Freelaner has moved on from his hairdresser mobile and bought a D3 after seeing the light

They asked me if I had ever lived abroad, dates.
Done.
Then which dates I worked over there.
Done, the same dates
Then they asked me for a reference number to do with it from the French authorities, twas 8 months as a language assistant in 1978-9 FFS. So typed into the box "don't know".
Which it accepted surprisingly.
Also wanted wifey's details.
Anyway, we'll see.
Mind you a wise French friend tells me I should apply for my French pension owed to me for this.
Should be all of two bob a week!

All they want to know for is to alert you to claiming any pensions you are due from other countries too.
In my case I was an assignee for IBM and we worked under a tax-treaty where we continued to pay full NI and hypothetical tax on our full UK earnings (as if we had never left the UK at all), so I didn't deem it at all relevant.
My state pension kicks in 29th December.
£174.47/week for sitting on my duff. Can't be bad.
