You can do it. I did the same on my son's 38' waiting for it to warm up. You can feel it pull at temp and then let it go.

Holding the viscous after the initial startup to find exhaust gasses escaping.
You mean take the serp belt off first?
Somewhere between the engine and the cats, manifold is most likely and hardest to get toI thought you were looking for a leak from the exhaust manifold?

Hence removing the fan from the equation, will be quieter and less air movement generally
Will i took the fan off, them exhaust manifolds get real hot real quick! Suffice to say there's next to no leak there, I'm baffled! Unlike my exhaust!!
That's the gasket between the manifold and the downpipe?
yepThat's the gasket between the manifold and the downpipe?
Will get me fingers round them tumorra
yes when the windows are openCan you smell exhaust gas inside the car?
Col
There probably is a leak at the manifold or down pipe joint then. I had the same problem, Iknew there was a leak cos of the noise and smell in the car but I couldn't find it, eventually it turned out to be a crack in the manifold in a place impossible to see or feel.yes when the windows are open
:'( i didn't want to hear this! do you recall where it was?turned out to be a crack in the manifold in a place impossible to see or feel.
Col
It was right underneath almost between the manifold and the head. The crack was about an inch long, how it happened, I don't know.:'( i didn't want to hear this! do you recall where it was?
