I thought they were just clips that your pull/push over to snap tight - leaving a clip shaped indentation in your fingers!

That's what I thought, but pull as I might I can't get it to clip back together. Bring back jubilee clips, that's what I say.

If they belligerently won't clip back, I've found its because the 2 sides aren't lined up together correctly.

I will have another go today, it's as though the clip is about 1/4 inch too short. It took me longer to get the air box off than it did the starter. There must be a knack to the clips that I just don't yet have.
