Howdy doo fellow disco owners..
We have acquired a rusty, noisy, wobbly, wonky, damp, leaky, creaky, beast of a machine! And we are hoping to iron out all it's problems!
Erm!!! Most of its problems at least!
I will list a few of the majors we have and please help us out if you know of any we havnt found yet!! Oh!! We is me and Wor lass!! She's with me on this journey! At least for now, until she realises I'm only taking here out to open and close the gates!!!
I will start with one that is familiar to all I presume!! Rust!!
Patched up by many enthusiasts over its brutal life.. but one saving grace!! Somebody wax oiled the chassis and it's in pretty good nick!!
So found rust around rear seat belt mounts. (Fixed ) Cills (fixed) bulk head around servo ( fixed) front floor pans . (Fixed) And front inner arches (fixed)
Is there anywhere else that is deadly to a disco that I havnt yet found?? We I mean.
the others are mechanical which are related to wear and tear and lack of maintainance with a sprinkle of abuse added in to the mixture...
next on the list is replacing front wheel bearings.. which is getting done this weekend.. got the Haines manual and a dial gauge.. and a half decent mechanical knowledge! but would greatly appreciate any advice yous have acquired over the years.
Had old bangers of cars and vans in the past and they all have Problems that are not covered in the Haines manuals.. partly because they don't use a 24 year old vehicle with rusty, rounded off seized bolts in there books!!
So is there any hidden nightmares lurking behind this relatively straight forward job !!!
Sorry to prattle on!! I don't get out very much!! My plan is don't touch it till it's broken. but oil the bits that need oiled and clean the important bits..
Appreciate any feed back!! And if yous are interested I (we I mean) will post all my disasters, mistakes, and modifications along the way!!
Thanks in advance
Paul and Andrea
