Last night I replaced the duff wing mirror on my P38.

(£50 for a NOS one from eBay) Mine came still sealed in a plastic bag and looks (and smells) brand new unused.

Here's the link, if you need one, and are waiting to save up or something, I doubt you could buy better for the money, and there are only 4 left.

Anyhoo, I changed the mirror, went inside, and went to bed.

When I got home from work this evening I noticed the car was unlocked!

Now I'm knackered at the moment and may have forgotten to lock it, but that's unlikely. I also thought these cars had "passive locking" where the car locks itself if it's left unlocked for 10mins and there has been no door opened or key in the ignition?

Has anyone had a problem with the locks where the car has unlocked itself? I should stress again, that I'm knackered and may have forgot, I also have young children who mess with things, but they said they hadn't touched it I can usually tell when they're lying so I believe them.

Lastly if I had left it unlocked, why didn't it lock itself?

It is possible for the central locking to fire through radio interference (mine goes crazy driving through the new Variable Speed Limit at the bottom of the M1) but I've never known mine to lock or unlock itself when parked without me accidentally pressing the keyfob.

Mine doesn't automatically lock itself when unattended either. It may be an option in the BECM, in which case someone else may be able to advise you, but mine is regularly left sitting unlocked as it's garaged overnight, and never locks itself.

Spurious locking/unlocking can occur cos of the design of the RF receiver. An updated one is available, check other posts about coloured dots and stuff. Funnily, I haven't had that happen since I changed my radio and disconnected one of the aerial leads (blue one I think). The RF receiver is behind the right hand boot trim and is part of the radio aerial stuff i think.

I have the latest version. At least, it has a green dot on it, and the battery doesn't flatten quickly. Or at least, it hasn't yet!

Living in London, my RR is probably bathed in a cloud of wireless internet, mobile telephones and god know hat else.

I probably left the thing open. It was raining at the time and I was trying to pack up my socket set, and carry the old mirror indoors etc.

Nice to see that nothing was nicked from it after leaving it unlocked for 24 hours though.

The car will relock after you unlock it if you dont open a door, lot of new cars do it. The old citroen zx had a habit of unlocking them selfs when the alarm system got a bit old and you used the remote, didnt happen if you locked it with the key though work that one out!

The automatic re-locking only happens if you unlock it then don't open door or tailgate within a minute or something. Sorry mate but I think you forgot to lock it. Welcome to old age.

Auto locking only works if no door is opened after unlocking, you must have had the door open to do the mirror so it would not auto lock.

I've not only left it unlocked all night but with a window open too! And I was working on my Classic when my wife had an urgent need to buy some shoes or something, I went out leaving my halfords advantix £200 sockets out, open. I live in an amazing neighbourhood-still there when I got back. EERRRR, where's my dementia level at?

No-matter how careful, i have left car and house open - more than once - its all downhill the age thingy

When a valid unlock request is received from the
remote handset and all windows are closed, the
ultrasonic sensor is activated for a period of 60
seconds or until movement is detected or:
- a door is opened or closed
- the tail door is opened
- the key is inserted in the ignition
- the ignition is turned to position I
- the vehicle is re-locked with the key or the remote
handset.
If, after 60 seconds, none of the above has occurred,
the vehicle will relock to its previous locked condition.

Don't worry nobody in their right mind would nick a set of Halfrauds sockets. If they did get nicked you can immediatly rule out anyone who works in a garage for a living, that lives near you.
