Hi fellas, anyone knows what relay is that?(yellow arrow) ... it almost burnt on a friend's 2002 Td4

looks like it's for an accessory, does it have any additional lights?

no mate, no spots, nothing extra, and it looks like it was originally there, it has that rubber cover and under it the relay.... here it is

not sure if i have one of those, never really noticed, but what i have noticed is, the two rubber wiring loom covers that comes out the side of the box that the ECU sit in, one of them is empty, wether its for additional light i dont know, could be related to that relay

Just checked my car and I have no such relay, and re the empty tube, I have two of them one next to the other, both are empty, aren't these tubes to make connection with the car's interior air, something to do with the coolingfan in that ecu box and to know when it has to run or so ??

It has the look of something that's been added, probably a high consumer given the burning. Try tracing the wiring for more clues, pin 87, the burnt one, should go to whatever it's powering. You could also connect a 12v bulb or use multimeter between the wire that goes to pin 86 and an earth, then operate any/all switches in the cab to see which one is used to energise the relay.

got it on mine. might be the fuel pump inertia switch, knock switch. or glow plug relay. cant remember but will look in the books later. I know ive moved it a number of time to get to the grommet in the bulkhead for cables!

I have an 'extra' relay in a rubber sleeved waterproof box.

Mine is for the extra 12v socket fitted in the rear load area.

It's the OE LR one I use to power a fridge. Factory fitted it was.

Draws a lot of current, my fridge.

It did overheat the relay once (I detected an electrical wiring smell) so I had it replaced with a heavy-duty fused one.

The OP's relay could be for anything of course.

It's the power relay for the PTC heater.

usually the reason for burning like that is the box that it plugs into the contacts of both parts are not good and you get sparking between the to contacts which courses this. What ever it is to I do not know as I do not have one ( td4 auto )

Now after mr. longdog elightened me i can tell that this PTC(positive temperature coeficient) heater is instead of FBH so if u have FBH u dont have this relay...and the other way around
