If I can get one what's the best (or I should say) most useful one to buy, this is my Xmas prezzy....

Yea BUT she dont know yet..... so if you hear cursing coming from a southerly direction, you know who its from!!

Dopey, the Faultmate is the best IMO, but if you can wait until January, I reckon the Nanocom will be a better bet as it's not locked to one VIN and it's stand alone, you don't need a laptop.

The one i use has had no limits as yet. i buy the multy vehicle software every time so it will do other range rovers land rovers, the software is good as is the hardware, I've used this for around one year now when i have enough cash i buy extra software. it has a large led screen for stand alone work or can be used with a laptop via cable or blue tooth for other operations, in stand alone it has lots of functions but the best I've found is the SM035 software that is used to unlock Becm's and access the locked information stored on the Becm (the SM035 software has to run through a laptop). I know as yet no other diagnostic hard or software that can do this. Help in all software is very easy to understand.

There... I have said all this because I've used one for around one year and found it easy to work and has endless software for all the land rover range. :)

I have no shares in blackbox solutions and do not work for them, these are my thoughts on this system as i have used it so know a bit about it.

So at the end of the day you can make your ££ back on the system by helping out others then?

Can someone help me out on this Nanocom business ? I see they are on the Blacktop website, but I can't find any info on p38 version. I see the disco and defenders are covered. I've checked the support forum aswell and there is no mention on there either. Does the Nanocom offer the same better than dealer accses that my msg2 extreme does ?
Just curious as I am selling mine and want to get the price right.

The Nanocom for the P38 is in beta test at the moment, due for release in January. It is a stand alone device with a colour touch screen, no need for a laptop. It does most of the things that the Faultmate MSV2 does as far as reading and clearing faults and displaying live data but it does not offer the SM035 direct access BECM facility. It is much cheaper than the Faultmate and locked to one model but not one VIN. That's as much as I have been able to discover. I think it is limited compared to the Faultmate but I reckon good for the average DIYer. More details on the Aussi LR Forum:)

I have the Hawkeye V5 and I am very happy with it. It now covers the BeCM and HVAC in addition to Engine Management, Transmission, EAS, airbag and ABS. In some instances you need extra cables such as for EAS or an adapter for ABS, which are quite expensive.
When I bought mine, including the EAS cable and ABS adapter, it cost me approx £350 inc VAT and delivery. It was then upgraded to V5 free of charge.
In addition to finding DTCs and clearing them it has Live Data on most modules, security and programming on some, ciruit tests and actuators so you can test components in real time. Setting transportation mode on ABS and EAS.
Quite a useful tool all in all and no need for a computer. The only real drawback is the lack of user manual which would make it a lot easier to use. I am told however, there will be an updated user manual at some point in the for see able future and that more version updates are planned.
It also covers all vehicles of one model e.g. all P38s not just my own.

Hi, quick Q re Hawkeye V5 - I know it now connects to HEVAC, but can it read the live values too, like Faultmate can? For example, can you see what values the various temperature sensors are returning? Or can you just read and reset the HVAC fault codes?

It is the live data that I am after.....

Cheers

Jerry
