through necessaty need a quick fix on a blown rear diff for a p&p.
Has anyone ever done it? what sort of life can i expect to get before some thing breaks. The landy is only used for green laning and p&p nothing else.
I know it will be a little fun on road to say the least any feed back welcomed.
Its a 90 by the way.

Ive done it on my drift cars etc. If you do it make sure you weld a plate in there on both sides. Welds alone arnt strong enough to hold it. Ive never actually broken a welded diff but they do get some play in them after a while

Cheers for that, i was going to weld all the planet gears together and the spline gears to the crown wheel etc

lol i was saying instead of just using welds, weld 2 small plates in because its stronger. Alot of people only weld them, and they break a lot easier

ive done a few on cars in the past and found that i can usualy get a couple of big nuts wedgd between the cogs , dont get carried away thinking more weld is better as it will all distort and bind ( been there and done that )

done it on my hybrid, works amazing. you loose a bit of turning circle-my series used to have very good turning circle, now its about the same as a disco-mines an 88..... it also means that when you blow up the front axle its not too bad in 2wd... ive blown welded diffs, but then ive blown open diffs in landys, at the rate of about 3 diffs a year, and this year ive done 4 events...hence im moving to either after market stuff or japcrap axles with lockers.
as a cheap, quik, easy difflock its good, but shafts are more prone to snapping and it kills your tyres
