hello. i must change a rear wheel bearing in my dse. can somebody let me know if i have to go into the differental to release the half shaft or will it come out to me when i rip the hub from the axle. thanks :D

If you are changing bearing you will need an at least 20 ton press. Flick out wheel centre, unstake hub nut, loosen. Jack up remove wheel, Use a stand. Remove caliper, tie aside. Remove caliper carrier, remove disc, remove disc splash guard, remove bolts holding hub in position, withdraw hub and half shaft from axle. Hub is usually tight to half shaft. You will need an oil seal, easy to destroy stripping or replacing half shaft. Care needed. Remove half shaft from hub (press will be needed). Clean half shaft so it is a sliding fit in new bearing. Remove C clip retaining bearing in hub. Press bearing out of hub. Inner bearing to half shaft usually sticks on half shaft you may need a split puller to remove it. Press new bearing into hub. Fit C clip. Fit new oil seal grease up well put grease on half shaft in case you touch oil seal. Feed half shaft carefully into axle, keep off oil seal. Locate half shaft in diff. Refit hub and other parts removed.

thank you for the replies. im actually changing the entire hub and shaft as i have a few spares knocking around but i was unsure whether the halfshaft was secured within the diff thank you for the advice and help :D
