Hi there,

Thinking of putting a white roof on my 90

Its had quite a dull finish and since I was out working overseas it got left for a little while and on my return noticed the roof started to micro blister slightly in places in the cold weather.

I was thinking of giving it a white roof as I know some CSW's did have that from the ones I have seen online occasionally.

Can anyone elaborate on how some CSW's got this though was it an option you could actually spec from the factory? I do have the 300 Tdi brochure for my vehicle and can't really seem to find that option of a white roof? Or is it simply that some people have done the respray themselves in the years afterwards? I know normally its found on the real base spec farm models, but I do really like it.

I know the majority of CSW's are like mine and feature a colour coded roof and wheel arches to the main body, but I think white might break it up quite nicely and look a bit more retro too.

This is a picture of what I would like it to look like basically.

Can anyone confirm the paint code of white used at the time for 1998 a 300 tdi Defender as i know it did differ slightly over the years

Cheers

Ryan

I think this was only on the earlier models mostly. 90 110 SW CSW 1983 onwards maybe 200 TDI 300tdi. Later on one colour or black roofs and fire and ice version. Maybe the appeal reflecting heat from sun in desert were the rest later on for the customer marketing.

There are definitely 300s CSWs about with white roofs my friend has one in Cobar blue in our Off road club. Its a 1997 300 tdi

At one time. all Station Wagons and Hard Tops had white roofs, although the ones that were painted Limestone may have had Limestone roofs, can't remember.

It makes sense, a white or light coloured roof reflects the summer sun, which even in the UK can heat a vehicle to stupid temperatures inside. Being more reflective also makes the roof expand and contract a bit less with changing temperature, and gives the paint coating an easier life.

So you are definitely doing the right thing with that from a historic perspective.

I do like Limestone but am trying to be as period correct as possible

Alpine white is what I used when I repainted my roof, all be it I have one of the base spec '89 110's you referenced earlier. Similar to you however I prefer the white roof, but I also prefer the black (non-colour coded) wheel arches as well!

Me too. I thought the black arches made them look like proper Land Rovers.
Cars became one colour all over, and the owners of Landrover decided they had to run with the herd.
