It does change, but only part way through the travel, when it reaches High Range physically, it displays 'LOW RANGE" in the diag software. Somewhere along the travel of the lever it jumps to "HIGH RANGE" but only momentarily.

Ah, I see, yes, I have been masking it by "clever clutch work". So when the clutch needs replacing, I'll replace the lever and surrounding parts I guess.

Datatek, it is a possibility but it did feel OK and went in flush to the flywheel with no forcing. It seemed to go together as you would expect it to. However, something is clearly wrong. I'm hoping that the reconditioning company will take the vehicle and have a look.
