Any help much appreciated, I am converting my defender to auto by using a salvage D2 TD5 2002. Whilst removing the gear select cable from the shifter end, the star shaped retaining clip went ping - never to be seen again and the white bush that surrounds the ball end of the cable is damaged...

I have almost finished, however during MOT today the gear selector cable fell out of the shifter. The plastic bush that fits over the ball end of the cable in the shifter is mangled and the retaining clip is missing. local landrover dealer want to sell me complete shifter. Does anybody know...
