I didn't want to go down the hole in the roof route so the cables run out the battery box, along the chassis, up the ladder and along the roof rack. It's a bit long winded but I couldn't summon up the courage to drill through the roof.

I have 4 of these mounted on my roof rack, fairly cheap, they've been on there two years and never had any problem with them...

Update time! After much investigation it appears that the knocking from my engine is due to it eating itself from the inside. The piston in cylinder 1 is apparently slightly undersized so it's taking chunks out of the cylinder :( So options are 1) engine rebuild 2) refurbed engine or 3) new...

Job done! Ended up taking the radiator off to get a good look at the thread, tiny amount of grinding with the dremel and it engaged almost immediately. Mow I just have to wait for the battery to charge so I can try and start the damn thing

Online it says tdi is 32mm, TD5 is 36. Haven't had it off before
