Hi Rich In that particular fitting, there is an extra plastic part for shipment purposes that needs to be removed as such (outlined in yellow), however your fix sounds much cheaper!

Hi Rich If you compare the fitting at the bottom of the oil dip stick and the "larger" fitting on the front cam cover (on the left when facing the engine), you will see there are the same.

Take a look at the front bank (closets to the radiator). Are you after the large or small fitting? There are the same throughout. The large one is LYC100510L A whole thread on these : https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/pcv-valve-fix.236334/

Thanks for the reply all. I am trying to put as many observations and data points to help others in case I ever solve this.

Further investigation. After the recent oil change after doing the timing belts, I looked into the camshaft cover where the oil cap is. Notice the tremendous amount of "mayo" now. I will update again when I have another update.

Based on this handy diagram of the NISSENS 73001 (it is a compatible heater core/matrix for the Freelander), it appears the OD is 17mm. I will report back if/when I am ever able to confirm.

Hi all I need to bypass my heater core matrix, and thus need the outside diameter of both heater matrix pipes. Anyone know what those sizes are so I can order a suitable U shaped pipe of the correct dimensions? Thanks again Martin

I already have Kaiser's excellent aluminium thermostat housing and associated piping.

Well today I drained the oil, and there is coolant in it. There is no oil in the coolant piping but coolant in the oil I just drained. This has to confirm the head gasket is bad.
