What size is the star socket needed for gearbox fill level plug?

Ninjad - I had just logged in to reply to this thread with that answer as promised, and you'd beaten me to the punch. Glad the OP got their answer though. I can confirm it's a t55, not an eroded t50 or scaled up t60 as the box I checked is pretty fresh.

You can get a couple of strategically placed drawing pins in between the black dots of the windscreen and the headlining

What size is the star socket needed for gearbox fill level plug?

What year of discovery is it? The D1 had both the LT77 & R380 gearboxes fitted to them dependant upon year. I'll crawl about under my discos tomorrow as I've got a 300tdi R380 box on the mez deck at my workshop, an LT77 in my D1 v8 & a later R380 in my D2 TD5, so once I know which vehicle, I'll...

D4 - Are they worth the risk?

I'd say go for it, if you're spending 15k on the D4, you are most likely buying it from a dealer, so get a warranty as part of the package. Also save up, if you have money in the bank it's not such a kick in the crotch if it eats a crankshaft, and if it doesn't eat a crankshaft in the time you...

    FL’s are not off-roaders, huh?

As someone who has woned RRC, D1, D2 & FL1, I can comment on how surprisingly capable the FL1 is - assuming you put decent tyres on it. The biggest "problem" the hippo has off-road is lack of ground clearance, however, with 29" tyres such as 235/70/16 or 225/70/16 or 205/80/16 sizes, and a 2"...

Disco 2 TD5 headlining - closest match to OE fabric?

Hi All, just a quick one, looking for reccomendations for a good choice of fabric with which to redo the headlining on my D2 TD5? I'm looking for something that is easy to work with yet available in a colour as close to original as possible.

    Discovery II - Tyre Comparison

Even up here, in Peterhead, 32 Miles North of Aberdeen, 57.5° N, yes it gets cold, as low as minus 10 in the winter, I don't bother with winter tyres, AT's or better yet Muds are a better choice... Muds, or to a lesser extent All Terrains, get me through what little snow we get in the winter...

    Disco 1 head unit issues…

Does this disco have the steering wheel buttons for the stereo? I'm wondering if the previous owner had put in an interface box for the steering buttons and those are now causing un-commanded signals to be sent to the head unit?

    Discovery II - Tyre Comparison

One of the best things ever to come out of the EU were their tyre labels, particularly their noise ratings, these arent scubjective, they are scientifically measured... As such there's no "they were quiet to him but they're making my ears bleed... The Decibels do not lie, but they are...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Put a resistor infront of it to create a voltage drop, and thus an amplitude reduction

What have you done to your Freelander today

On some models, the fuel filter is located on the near side inner wing, I recently had to replace my filter, not because it was due on mileage, but because it was leaking due to a cracked seal #britpart

Disco 2 Td5 no power, changed loads and at a loss.

My newly acquired TD5 behaves similarly, but I'm not hijacking this thread for a diagnosis... However, I simply must commend Sierrafery for his knowledge of the TD5 management system.

Disco 2 Has anyone used a TD5 with the M&D kit for an MT82

It's a Discovery Td5, it already has the 1.2 transferbox, and with the 255/60/18 (30") tyres I've fitted to it, it's working out at about 2607rpm for a TRUE* 70mph. I'm used to a 300tdi, which is a four banger, so at any given RPM has 25% less detonation event sounds, so to me the TD5 sounds...

Disco 1 Foaming steering fluid reservoir

I had something similar on my jag XJR, turned out the hose from reservoir to pump had a split in it, allowing the pump to suck in air and oil. Before you go much further replace that hose, it's 5/8" hose of I remember correctly and well worth checking 👍

    2003 td5 Egr blank

AFIK That wee barb should be a solid barb rather than a through hole bored fitting, and what you do is you put the vacuum line from the EGR valve onto it to plug the line and maintain the vacuum. When you disconnect the EGR, if you leave the vacuum line open to the atmosphere, there is a risk of...
