Refurbing Axles Have I gone to Far

If you've got an air compressor then a die grinder is the best tool for taking off rust the problem with wire brush wheels is they tend tend to polish the rust. I use Bilt Hamber to treat it after.

P38 Key Fob Woes (I know probably been done to death but anyway)

Thanks, I think Nanocom might be a worthwhile investment. The second part seems a bit unclear it seems to imply if the BECM is unlocked the fob code can be altered which would presumably permit any fob you had the code for to be entered when I thought there definitely isn’t any way of...

    Red hot compressor

I replaced all the piping from the same source as the push fit connectors when I did mine which I thought might be a sensible to minimise leaks. I work on trucks and trailers and their air systems are basically the same with larger bore piping and similar ride height sensors. They do stay less...

P38 Key Fob Woes (I know probably been done to death but anyway)

Thanks for the reply Could be - I think we’ve all been down the road of hoping you can do that. It’s sown the seed of doubt that a new fob from the dealer might not work. (Does anyone know if a normal key cutting place can cut a replacement key blade as I in fact haven’t actually got a spare...

P38 Key Fob Woes (I know probably been done to death but anyway)

Thanks, I was thinking of getting Nanocom in any case. If I disable the EKA and immobiliser is there any downside beyond the potential lack of security. I’II just be able to unlock the door with the dud key fob manually and start it up? The locked to one vehicle thing would put me off the...

    rear spring conversion or not?

To be brutally honest, and at the risk of offending people, whenever I see "Converted to rear springs so no troublesome air bags" in an advert I read it as 'owned by a bodger and maintained on the cheap'. The same way I translate on adverts 'no timewasters' to 'I'm a timewaster with a vehicle...

Disco 2 Sls height values after sensor change

On the Disco you can just unbolt the bump stops and use two blocks of wood cut to the right height to calibrate without having to fork out for the LR specific ones so might as well measuring from the hub to the arches etc I never feel you can get it quite right.

    rear spring conversion or not?

Doesn't sound like you might want to but I find the air suspension to be very beneficial for towing. Personally I find them no trouble to maintain and usually get five years or so out of a set. The one weakness is off-road I have popped a couple in deep mud ruts.

    1996 p38 4.6

If you've got engine disabled on the dash assuming the EKA code is correct it should work. Is the headlight tell tale on the dash flashing with each turn of the key to enter the digits when you're trying to put the EKA code in as could be micro switches in door lock gone.

6-Wheel Drive Discovery II - Am I totally mad ?

Great project! Reminds me of this three axle D4 the Navy had built - you should bid to build a future one.

    D2 chassis replacement

If you haven't found it already this is a useful link for an online parts catalogue for tracking down parts numbers. http://allbrit.de/select.cfm?CAR=L5&SPRACHE=EN Some bolts you can replace with stock nuts and bolts others you will need the LR part. Some captive nuts will be so corroded it's...

    Red hot compressor

I've fitted the schrader tyre valves T-eed inbetween the valve block and bags, as is quite common, but also with the valves that can be manually closed between the schraders and the valve block. My first port of call is then to close all the valves and leave it. If it stays up you know the bags...

P38 Key Fob Woes (I know probably been done to death but anyway)

I'm reasonably au fait with the options but can't decide what to do. Basically, the sole working key fob on my 2000 P38 has died - changed batteries but no leds so think the fob is stuffed. Rather than try and get it fixed I'm happy to spring for a new fob from the dealers and this is where I'm...
