The tester's manual for HGVs will include anything over 3.5t so they will see quite a few Iveco and Mercedes panel vans which will have suspension ball joints, which will for all intents and purposes look like any 3.5t van but be plated at 5.5t, or something like that and have to go through the...

Disco 4 (LR4) Advise on things to check on purchased Disco 4?

Sorry to report I've two RRS's outside with snapped cranks both on over 100K but for balance not all are affected I've had several with over 250k on the clock through with no crank issues. If however oil starvation on start up is the issue they may of course have done 250k with less cold starts...

I'm not sure the OP has clarified but 'doing ball joints' would normally mean steering knuckle ball joints. This other guy is blathering on about steering ball joints but on a disco 2 if it's steering ball joints plural it will usually mean replacing either the entire drag link or tie rod...

Yes, if you click through any of those ball joints listed they're all for Dodge or Chevy pickup trucks. Sorry, from reading your posts on this thread. I think you're an experienced internet BS merchant and not an experienced mechanic and people should take any of your advice with a big pinch of...

The thing about lorry ball joints is they er don’t have them, they have king pins which present their own problems for removal.

6-Wheel Drive Discovery II - Am I totally mad ?

If you think there's any money to be had from having a magazine article on a project you've never completed a project that's had a magazine article done on it.

    P38A Tow bar options/recommendations wanted.

I'II stop using it immediately you're clearly some sort of engineering genius like the Brunel of towbars or something.

It's not a trailer though so not really relevant

    P38A Tow bar options/recommendations wanted.

This is mine. Not sure if it's LR or aftermarket or part number as it was very hard to find one when I restored the car and wanted rid of the unattractive swan neck some years ago. You can see it has two robust pieces each side of flat steel going to the plate you bolt the towball to rather than...

Fine with spigot rings, in reality - obviously there's the ride comfort considerations.

to LPG or not, that is the question

The Countrywide network is the best option as once you have a smart key you can fill up any time you're passing one whatever the time of day. My general feeling is late model V8 engines don't fare as well on gas - you'll still get the inevitable block/liner issues on petrol but some...

    Possible LPG fuel contamination?

I'd have to go with coincidence. If it was fuel contamination I'd be suspecting the petrol rather than the gas.

One of my favourite alloy wheel designs they've ever done those - not sure what they called them on the L322

    P38A Got's me some ticking....

Get some freeze and release spray on them, bang with a hammer, add more, repeat. Air impact gun would obviously be helpful if a possibility

    P38A Bottom ball joints steering.

If you're using a G clamp type balljoint press to get them out spray a liberal amount of white grease on the threads and wind it in and out to cover evenly before starting. Once it's under a lot of pressure it might pop with a sharp smack with the old Irish spanner.

    P38A Got's me some ticking....

Drop the sump as it's probably still less work than taking the heads off even at this stage and look for any coolant crud at the bottom of the cylinders. Have seen plenty of slipped liners where there's no pressurising of the coolant system. To be honest it always goes this way with ticking -...

    P38A Got's me some ticking....

You could shove some Wynns lifter treatment in - it won’t fix it but might give some indication if it is lifters. I wouldn’t really expect oil related issues though as the oil gets much less carbon contamination on lpg.

P38A Upgrading front airbags with arnott gen 3 ... ? Anybody done this

If there'd been internet forums at the time I daresay plenty of people would have said the same with about the P38 - which I would have said gadget/tech wise was a bigger leap than a Sport is from the P38

P38A Upgrading front airbags with arnott gen 3 ... ? Anybody done this

L322 had front and rear standard ARBs compared to the P38's single one at the front. Active anti-roll bars didn't make a come back until the Range Rover Sport - which is why the familiar chorus of the Sport being the same as the Disco 3 with a different body shell isn't really true.
