    300tdi faulty lift pump?

I would just change it as a matter of course. It's not a difficult job, won't take long and a replacement lift pump is pretty cheap.

    A "clonk" from underneath...

The last clonk i had was a totally shot king pin bearing.

    Head gasket change difficult??

not particularly although 300tdis are usually a PITA. Just open up the filler plugs on the fad and thermostat housing (replace them with brass plugs if they are still plastic jobbies), fill the system, wait until the radiator plug overflows and close it, fill some more, wait until the...

    Head gasket change difficult??

Well, you can use the flat side to a bolt system but 10 of the bolts require a further 20 degree turn after 2 60 degree turns and an angle gauge is cheap as chips so why not get one to put your mind at rest?

    Head gasket change difficult??

Just don't forget to empty ALL the coolant, including the coolant in the block. Otherwise you'll end up having to drop the sump to clean it too (not a bad idea once you're at it either).

    Head gasket change difficult??

If you have done a clutch, a 300-tdi gasket will be easy-peasy. Just get yourself a decent torque wrench and angle gauge and you're good to go. Set aside a full morning and go for it. If I were you, while I am at it, I would take the head for a light skim and pressure test, lap the valves and...

    p-gasket renewal how-to

Don't bother removing the brass plug. While it's not the 100% ideal way to do things, if you remove the little bypass hose on top of the thermostat housing you should be able to get rid of the air.

It doesn't improve anything. It's just not meant to leak and many of them do :)

New Water Pump and P Gasket Tips

A small tip to line up the gasket. Either cut off the head of the old long bolts, screw them in by a couple of threads, put the gasket on and slide the cover on, or else buy a studded bar (i believe it's 8mm), cut the length required and do the same. Then remove each one in turn and replace...

    300tdi air filter hose

My 90 has a 300tdi retrofitted to it. The air filter housing is the original Defender 300tdi type. Since the wings are earlier type, the hose connecting the air filter to the wing has been omitted. i have recently fitted a mantec snorkel but have not connected it to the air filter yet. I...

Imperial socket sizes for suspension nuts/bolts

    I use a 1 1/8" and it's a nice, snug fit.

Imperial socket sizes for suspension nuts/bolts

    For the A-frame, you'll need a 1/8" socket. Imperials just don't fit. 28mm is too small, I could never find a 29mm and a 30mm will slip.

    Reverse light switch wire

Understood James. Thanks. That's what I meant. I need to trace the loom to the rear. The ends on the front of the bulkhead are visible.

    Steering box removal

It's a real bitch ain't it? Did it last Saturday. Recently replaced box, totally leak-free when purchased, ****ed oil all over the place. Needed a total re-build and machining of the shaft.
