How bit a job is it to change the awful glass fuses to blade fuses?

I got them directly from Glencoyne. They're superb!

I would just change it as a matter of course. It's not a difficult job, won't take long and a replacement lift pump is pretty cheap.

Well, you can use the flat side to a bolt system but 10 of the bolts require a further 20 degree turn after 2 60 degree turns and an angle gauge is cheap as chips so why not get one to put your mind at rest?

Just don't forget to empty ALL the coolant, including the coolant in the block. Otherwise you'll end up having to drop the sump to clean it too (not a bad idea once you're at it either).

Don't bother removing the brass plug. While it's not the 100% ideal way to do things, if you remove the little bypass hose on top of the thermostat housing you should be able to get rid of the air.

It doesn't improve anything. It's just not meant to leak and many of them do :)

A small tip to line up the gasket. Either cut off the head of the old long bolts, screw them in by a couple of threads, put the gasket on and slide the cover on, or else buy a studded bar (i believe it's 8mm), cut the length required and do the same. Then remove each one in turn and replace...

I use a 1 1/8" and it's a nice, snug fit.

For the A-frame, you'll need a 1/8" socket. Imperials just don't fit. 28mm is too small, I could never find a 29mm and a 30mm will slip.

It's a real bitch ain't it? Did it last Saturday. Recently replaced box, totally leak-free when purchased, ****ed oil all over the place. Needed a total re-build and machining of the shaft.
