    300 Tdi Rebuild

Expansion tanks have a habit of splitting from the seams. Try to buy a transparent one. They're more durable. I come from Malta, where temperatures can be hellish for engines and many a tdi was cooked due to splitting expansion tanks.

    300tdi oil pressure range

Don't lose sleep over it. My 300 holds a pressure of approx 25psi when warm and has run like that ever since I have had it (2003) with no problems.

300tdi Air filter dump valve nipple thingy

What cap do you suggest? I'd like to cap mine off too.

    Complete Rebuild?

go for it. It's a ripe candidate for a rebuild. 6000 euro is definetely not doable though. You're looking at 8-10 at the very least and that's if you do everything yourself.

    Wipers

Sorted. I piggy backed another wire into the one that needed to be earthed and that was that.

    Wipers

It is an earth problem 100% but it is not the wire that is attached to the bulkhead. It is one of the wires coming from somewhere towards the driver's side and going into the multiplug. For reasons I cannot understand, this wire has an uninsulated male and female slider connector connected to...

    Wipers

I have changed the switch to no avail so I bought a new wiper motor. Before removing the old one i switched plugs from the old one to the new one and the new one started working as soon as I turned the key. I'm not sure whether the wiper switch was on or off! To be totally sure, I plugged the...

    Wipers

Thanks oldseadog. Will give it a shot. I still think the switch is at fault though. I guess I should be able to hear some whirring sound if the motor is working no?

    Wipers

The windscreen wipers on my 1989 have stopped working. At first it was a bit of an intermittent fault. The wipers would on occasion stop mid way through the sweep and continue a couple of seconds later but they have suddenly stopped altogether. I have a hunch that it is the switch. I wanted to...

    200tdi - suddenly lacks power

My money's on the lift pump. Just change it. It's a cheap and easy fix.

    Wiring a courtesy light

I am sick and tired of using torches to see the interior of my 90 and would like to install a courtesy light. I have a modern-type courtesy light and have no intention of wiring it to the doors or any of that fancy stuff. I have a vacant on-off-on carling rocker switch in my mud dash and would...

    Snorkel fitting

I am about to fit a Mantec snorkel to my 1989 90 fitted with 300tdi and r380 box (well, snorkel has already been fitted, it's just not plumbed up yet). I have a few questions: The air filter is the proper 300tdi defender type (i.e. bolted to the cylinder head). Snorkel too is fitted on the...

    Air filter hose

I'll follow this as I have the same dilemma. I think I'm going to use agricultural suction hose. Why do you want to eliminate part 10?

    Defender 300tdi overheating issues

Be wary of Durite water temperature gauges. I read many positive reviews about them and decided to replace all my gauges with durite. All worked a treat with the exeption of the water temperature gauge. As soon as a current was fed to it, the needle jumped up to 50 deg. A new sender unit did...

    Staked nut on TD5 axle?

I have done mine quite recently. Not a difficult job by any means. Very Very messy though.

    Staked nut on TD5 axle?

Thanks. And I guess the usual box spanner isn't man enough for the job right? Should I get a 52mm socket?

    Staked nut on TD5 axle?

I am about to rebuild the swivels on a mate's 2001 TD5 110. Will the nuts holding the hub be staked or the regular double nut and bend over tab?

    Front output flange - removal

Can anyone please explain how to remove the transfer case output flange? I'd like to replace the propshaft bolts. Engaging difflock, 5th gear and hand brake is still not enough to stop the shaft from turning. Furthermore, with difflock engaged, when rocking the flange to and fro, I am hearing...

    Glencoyne engine mounts

Yes they do sell out pretty quickly. I was very lucky. he received a batch just in time to coincide with my visit to the UK a few months ago so I made some savings on postage.
