    Range Rover mechanic in Leeds?

He's very good on cars and my Disco 1 but not sure what hes like on the newer air suspension - he's mainly a commercial vehicles/vans sort of guy. I've just texted him and found he's on holiday in the USA for two weeks though!

    Oil recomendation

Modern oils though are very good - unless you do testing you have no idea. The LL04 I am using for the BMW is within spec still for all markers at 30k, it's getting a bit low on TBN which is what the condition sensor looks at in the oil to decide when to change it - but there is no loss of...

    Range Rover mechanic in Leeds?

http://www.4xfortyone.co.uk/ in Wakefield can probably do this sort of thing. Or I can put my Polish guy onto it but not sure how much he has done on this line of work. http://www.landroverspecialist.co.uk/ is another ooption but I've never had dealings with them... so.... could be excellent...

That's really quite curious. I would be amazed that a fairly small rocker shaft could loose so much oil to drop the pressure off - I would have thought it would be so noisy from wear or just excessive clearances that it would be untenable long before pressure issues became apparent.

Big Stripdown and Weld thread 300tdi

You know, whilst you are at it with easy access - I'd at least put in a new A-frame ball joint just cos it's such a pain normally.... Looking good this thread - it'll be a cracking motor when finished.

    Oil recomendation

I can spend £36 for 5 litres of fully synth every 30k - or I can spend about £20 six times over... I know which is going to cost me more - and a 10W grade oil will have more wear at start up than the 0W I currently use.

    Oil recomendation

Yeah.... My car. Uk. Recommended interval is up to 30k In the US.. same engine and oil... 6k. Because 1950s mentality. As for changing the viscosity grade... you dont need to change the upper grade point its gets to the same operating temp summer or winter....

Like I say it's madness. The amount of waste oil there must be for no good reason other than the 1950's timewarp they are in....

    Oil recomendation

ZDDP is an upper cylinder lube that is possbily needed or of value on older engines. It can be removed without losing spec of the base oil certification, and is often kept down to solve catalytic converter poisoning issues.

    Oil recomendation

Well, we do wonder why the USA seems to use such terrible oil.... 30k between changes on my BMW, and thats a ten year old car... just rolled past 200k. The trick isnt difficult but the USA seems wedded to the 3000 mile myth and wont move on - kind of like your amazing infatuation with imperal...

    Transfer case cooling...

Ooh handy. That looks useful if the existing plate is indeed the cause. I just have visions of pulling it off and finding some previous scally has hammered a screwdriver in there to pull it off or summat and marked the face to hell and back.

    Transfer case cooling...

I am planning on doing some serious overlanding in it in the future - probably Morrocco at some point so was just thinking perhaps it may be an idea... Shame it's not steel otherwise I'd just plate one up and weld it...

    Transfer case cooling...

So I was looking about at how to stop my LT230 box dripping on my Disco 1. I thought perhaps it might be worth carefully lapping the plate flat if it was warped or nicked or scored on the mating face. Or perhaps the Landrover way and a thick gasket and a lot of Hylomar. But then I found this...

    Black cloud of death

Black smoke is excess fuel. Does the amount of smoke depend on how long since the engine was running?

    BROKEN DOWN CONTAMINATED DIESEL HELP!

OK. If you crank with the bleed screw out on the filter then it should squirt everywhere. When it does tighten the bleed up. Now on the back of the injection pump (not the lift pump) there is a return fuel line banjo that looks like a cross - there is a return line, and a feed line from the...

    BROKEN DOWN CONTAMINATED DIESEL HELP!

I cant see how it possibly can get into the fuel at all - there could be a crack from a waterway to the injector tunnel in the head I suppose, but the injector is a sealed unit the return is inside the injectior pencil...

    BROKEN DOWN CONTAMINATED DIESEL HELP!

That looks a lot of water - and it's green which would imply growth of some kind. Keep that sample don't chuck it. I'd be asking some pointed questions at the filling station - that is a lot to have leaked into the tank if it's not rusted a big hole in the top and let spray in..... either...
