    P38A A series of faults

Bit of an update Headlining done, not a great job due to working on it on an extremely hot day and the spray contact adhesive grabbing insanely quickly so there area couple of minor creases and bits where I couldn't get the headlining to get into the hollows as the glue had grabbed and set...

    P38A Engine overhaul.

This was who I bought my Turbo bits from: Be very aware that the shaft nut and thread are left handed and if you have a lever switchable drive Teng 5 to 25Nm torque wrench it does not do torque when reversed...I learnt that the hard way...alltough a replacement Mellet exhaust wheel and shaft...

    P38A A series of faults

Ordered some headlining cloth and high temp contact adhesive from AS Trim, so will pull the headlining and do a complete job of it

    P38A A series of faults

OK...that sounds a bit backwards, I better try pressing the button and getting the light on then. Had a worrying moment earlier when leaving work and the passenger side vents were blowing warm air, after about 5 minutes they went back to blowing cool though. Need to have a look at the AC...

    P38A A series of faults

It was the bulb. Managed to modify the bulb holder and one of the green LED's that I'd bought for the instrument cluster to do the job. Still have the book symbol displaying, but cool air blowing out of the passenger side, so I guess at least one of the drivers side blend motors needs...

    P38A A series of faults

Indeed, I had a bit of fun trying to get the blend motor connector out and back in again, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was a connector

    P38A A series of faults

I didn't touch the instrument cluster while dealing with the blend motors though, only the HEVAC control unit that I unplugged and removed while digging around, although probably needn't have. Now I have just lost backlight on the HEVAC display so chances are the bulb (green bulb holder in the...

    P38A A series of faults

Only swapped instrument cluster bulbs for LED's, hadn't touched the HEVAC as it was working fine till I had to move it to work on the blend motor, now as is typical it has stopped illuminating

    P38A A series of faults

had most of the under dash and all of the centre console in pieces today to pull the passenger side blend motor out. Stripped it down and realigned the pot with the drive gear, lightly greasing up all the gears and the worm drive. Also fixed an issue with the drivers side rear vent which was...

    P38A A series of faults

What a plum... The momentary rocker on the lights stalk is for the instrument lightning dimmer  To engage cruise you're meant to press the 'highway' button way over on the passenger side of the dash

    P38A A series of faults

Hum, I had assumed that as the car uses a fly-by-wire accelerator that the cruise system was entirely in the ecu...I was fiddling with the rocker momentary switch on the lights stalk and pressing the 'set' button in the hope that something might happen, including just a light illuminating on the...

    P38A A series of faults

I replaced the leak off pipes on the injectors when I had the inlet manifold off to fit new glow plugs. Will dig my Borescope out tomorrow for a look around I had a sneaking suspicion it would be the blend motors...will do some research

    P38A A series of faults

First leg of the trip complete and sitting at Chobham services waiting for my ex to arrive. Bit of an oil leak from somewhere around the dipstick area, but seems to be coming down the side of the block from higher up. Most odd. Could be the cam cover I guess, despite me installing a new gasket...

    P38A A series of faults

That would be the cam cover I stripped down and thoroughly cleaned a while back in this rather long tale of mechanical maladies ;) The dipstick 'O' ring was a little slack and misshapen, I discovered this after dumping a fair bit of oil on the ground because of course the oil level is above...

    P38A A series of faults

And it has an MoT! Just in time too as my normal daily is wheels in the air while we await parts to complete tge service and a chassis update, so I really need another working vehicle rather than a field ornament. Still looks to be pushing a bit of oil out around the dipstick; so I'm guessing...

    P38A A series of faults

MoT booked for Saturday morning...have had a series Baldrick level of cunning plans to get around the oil coming out the dipstick... 1) Booked MoT 0.5 miles from the house to minimise driving time on load 2) *Total bodge alert* remove dipstick, slide hose over the top of the dipstick tube and...

    P38A A series of faults

Oh well, I cleared the errors without reading them! Hopefully removing all the connectors in the A posts and direct soldering their wires will have fixed it My next concern is whether the engine is going to blow oil out of the dipstick once it's properly under load, and that I can only...

    P38A A series of faults

Well it didn't like my USB hard drive, nor .Net Framework v4, but after a bit of digging on the web installing v3.5 service pack 1 was meant to work. It was a much bigger installer and while I was there I deleted my Anti Virus software (I very much doubt this machine will be hooked back up to...

    P38A A series of faults

Alas I have failed to get EAS Unlock working on my older XP machine, I suspect a result of Microsoft Dot Net on it being outdated...now have the fun and games of trying to sort that out...on a machine with a 10gb hard drive that only has 12% hdd free
