    Disco 2 advice please

Good advice on here would appear to what Land Rover say. Go for it.

    Disco 2 advice please

I guess if Land Rover said they had cocked up with the plastic dowels then they would have had a huge number of claims to deal with. Did they later go steel dowel anyway? My head gasket went at 70k and if you can imagine the dowels had stepped sideways at the head / block interface. Even that...

    Disco 2 advice please

Dowels dont hold the head in place, the bolts do that, but dowels are used to accurately locate the head on the block not just the gasket. The plastic dowels are not robust enough to ensure location in the longer term and they can and do deform allowing the head to move slightly causing bridging...

    Disco 2 advice please

What! bad advice to change those plastic dowels for steel ones because the plastic ones allow the head to move, which is most definitely the likely cause of a head gasket failure in the first place. bad advice to simply use the thicker head gasket, which avoids any tolerance issues and ensures a...

    Disco 2 advice please

Ditto, fit steel dowels, thickest head gasket and reuse head bolts. Cheap as chips.

    Disco 2 Gaz shocker leak

I must admit I didnt notice any handling issues at all and when I pulled the shock it was clearly empty and doing nothing. Maybe if it were a sports car it could have been noticeable.

    Disco 2 Gaz shocker leak

Strange thing, I noticed a pool of oil below the drivers side front corner. On investigating it seemed to be coming from the shock absorber. Anyway I've now removed and replaced the shock with a new one. Inspection of the failed shocker seems to indicate the weld at the bottom has become porous...

Does anyone actually have a 100% working Landy?

I once got to the stage where the only isue I had, which I was happy to accept, was that the clock wasn't working, well the LED didn't show the numbers fully. It still doesn't. Having said that I've enjoyed that only issue for a good couple of years now. More recently though I am needing to...

    Disco 2 Shock absorbers.

Anyone worked out why the shocker should suddenly leak? My front right has done so too. The suspension hardly gets a workout on the road and its developed a squeek at the rear too, which i'm convinced is the damper shaft dry due to not moving or something. The worry is whether they will start...

    Canyonero's D2

Aaagh!! a sunroof!! But it does have a snorkel I see. You'll need a check list of things to check and correct, unless they have been done already.

Disco 2 Interior lights staying on

I went to have a look at things yesterday and all is as it should be. Lights working properly on door and ignition. Clearly some water was getting into something and throwing the BCU some bad messages. Anyway, i'll keep an eye on it.

Disco 2 Interior lights staying on

After what seems to be a considerably long time without a murmur from my disco 2, well except when I needed a rear drop link at the last mot, the interior lights have just started playing up. It rained like hell last night and when I got in the dico this morning everything seemed as normal...

    Disco 2 engine cutting out

Check intercooler hose for delaminating. Sounds like the type of issue it can create if your intercooler hoses are old and soft.

Disco 2 TD5 head gasket change success, and now ..running in?

Dont think you need to run a head gasket in. Thats for metal parts and machining bits

Disco 2 Head Gasket and Heater Core

    1. I just bought the 3 hole and fitted that one regardless (its not a racing engine) 2. I just purchased a head gasket and some steel dowels. If its gone it may be the dowels need replacing with steel ones. 3. I reused the old head bolts. Don't understand why people replace them, they are...

    Disco 2 Accelerator pedal sensors

+1 certainly sounds that way if there is a dead spot in the sensor output. They seem to come with the pedal, not sure whether they can be bought separately but even with the pedal they are quite inexpensive.

Disco 2 D2 What Tow Bar Bolts?

Yes it’s probably overkill. A 10.9 is a fair hike in capacity over an 8.8 I was just thinking if you are having difficulty finding the size in a 10.9 I’d be inclined to go with an 8.8 unless LR are specifying a 10.9 Simple unfactored calc of tensile yield strength for a 14mm bolt would seem to...

Disco 2 D2 What Tow Bar Bolts?

10.9 is a fairly high grade bolt. Is that what they are supposed to be?
