    P38A E10 petrol arrgghh

My 2001 V4.6L P38 runs happily on E85 (85% bioethanol) which now costs over €1 per litre here in France so has no problem with E10 (now around €1.85 per litre). E85 cost about 65c per litre before the Ukraine war.

P38A How to find emission data to check ULEZ compliance

No UK PCN can be enforced abroad as there is no legal framework to establish any debt. Letters from debt collectors have no legal meaning & can be ignored.

P38A How to find emission data to check ULEZ compliance

TfL have Euro Parking Collection plc (EPC) acting as debt collectors & sending fake PCNs to registered keepers of overseas registered vehicles but that doesn't mean that these PCNs are enforceable abroad. No Penalty Charge Notices issued in the UK are enforceable abroad whether issued for...

    P38A Emissions

V8 Developments have had my car since last August but I paid a £1,000 deposit to reserve my slot last June.

    P38A Emissions

I'll second that. V8 Developments are doing a full engine rebuild for me but doing the complete job of removing & replacing the engine which costs a lot more than £2.5K. They have had my P38 since last August & hopefully I will get the car back sometime in the next month. Their original promise...

P38A How to find emission data to check ULEZ compliance

I took a look at the CoC for my 2001 4.6L that I got from JLR when I re-registered my P38 in France. The emissions figures are completely different to a 4.0. Unfortunately it's very clearly not going to be ULEZ exempt although if I ever do drive in the ULEZ as I have French number plates & live...

P38A How to find emission data to check ULEZ compliance

Actually the TfL website says that you need a letter OR a CoC. A letter from the vehicle manufacturer's homologation department stating the vehicle's Euro standard or a conformity certificate

    P38A New key options

You can buy a genuine replacement key fob from a Land Rover main agent at a cost of about £250. They just need the registration number or possibly the VIN. They may ask to see the V5C & photo ID but didn't when I bought mine a couple of years ago from Lookers the JLR main agent in Colchester.

    P38A Rear Drivers Door Removal

It may not be deadlocked. It may be the Bowden cable that operates the latch from the internal handle. There was another forum member who encountered this problem recently who was able to use the same solution as I discovered last March using a torch & knitting needle to operate the lock. Before...

    P38A Height sensors

I think an annual test is a very good idea. I live in France & need a CT every two years so every other year I get an MOT done while I am in the UK. I think that it's worth the modest cost to have an independent eye run over the car particular underneath.

Another nice touch with the CT is that if it fails on a défaillance critique you can’t drive after midnight the day of the CT of its défaillance majeure you are given a CT valid for two months & it's possible to have repeated two month CTs.

    P38A Height sensors

Another reason that the Contrôle Technique (CT) is better than a UK MOT is that they are performed by independent CT centres not the garage servicing your car. They have no hidden agenda of finding faults that they can then charge to fix.

    P38A Cannot open drivers door

I'm glad that my experience helped you. When I was stuck with a door that I couldn't open I Googled & found that people with the same issue had gone to such extremes as removing the front wing so they could undo the hinges or removing the rear door from its hinges so that they could smash the...

    P38A Cannot open drivers door

At first I really didn't understand what I was doing & was just wildly poking the knitting needle down into the mechanism where the end of the cable attaches. Once I had released it a few times I recognised exactly which part needed to be depressed to operate correctly. Interestingly the cable I...

    P38A Cannot open drivers door

I had this happen about six months ago. If the cable operated linkage from the interior handle doesn’t return fully it does exactly what you describe as the wire release needs to push the latch back into the correct position for opening. The cable needs replacing but in the interim & to confirm...

P38A Do I reconnect the RF receiver?

This is what I did about five years ago before Marty designed the RF filters. I moved house from a remote location into a town where I had to park on the street & obviously there was much more WiFi 'chatter'. It took me a few weeks to diagnose the problem & I needlessly replaced the battery but...

P38A Sanity Check, are the Rover V8s any good??

I read that General Motors dropped the aluminium V8 & returned to using cast iron engines on cost grounds as the alloy block cost at least an extra $200 to manufacture.

P38A unintended consequences - help sought

I think in over 50 years of motoring that I've run out of fuel more times than I have had a flat tyre yet I don't carry a can of fuel in the boot.

P38A Alpine Radio and CD Changer

This is the FM transmitter that I bought. One for the P38 & the other for my Jaguar S-type. Unfortunately no longer available. It is possible to get a Bluetooth unit that plugs into the CD changer port on the back of the radio in a P38. This is a much more elegant solution but costs about £100...
