Be worth buying replacement bolts that hold the seal keeper plate on before you attempt changing it. When I first done mine the heads were so small and rusted that they rounded off and were a right pig to get out.

Easiest way to check the diff switch would be to remove the gearbox tunnel and test the switch with a multimeter. Put the multimeter on the continuity setting and attach to the terminals on the switch and see if it changes as you engage and disengage the diff lock. Also worth checking the earth...

I done it by taking the box out but I would Deffo take the engine out instead next time which would be way easier. Agree that if you can get a reasonable quote may be worth saving your knuckles and and effort for other jobs.

Looks like a good project. Bet you'll find all sorts of things if you stripped out the interior!

I've read that Dynamat hoodliner makes a massive difference, more so than an engine blanket. It's what I'm gonna go for when my rebuild eventually gets that far :(

Good luck with the fix bud. Remember to label bits as they come off and always best to keep the cam followers in the same order that they came out in when refitting.

Sounds like spline failure of the gearbox output shaft to me.

Got this little lot back from galv so can now start reassembling the heater box and steering colomn. Also finally got the bulkhe ad supports fitted to stop it wobbling around :D Also got all this lot to start the process of wiring in the td5 dash binnacle and centre console.
