Before you select the next height are you waiting for the compressor to refill the air reservoir tank. ie is the compressor switching itself off??? Obviously you have all the doors/tail gate closed a drivers/passengers windows open. Depending on where your located in Kent, I maybe able to help...

Official Land Rover show chains appear to be rebadged RUD chains, so I'd be looking at their web site for their version. I believe the reason Land Rover don't recommend front show chains is the lack of clearance between the wheel and chassis, if the axles are crossed. The P38 owners manual...

As stated before theres a possibility that maybe the transfer box chain. Does it make the noise if you, 1. accelerate gentle 2 accelerate hard 3. under power up a steepish hill Is it one clunk or a series of clucks ie:machine gunning?

I don't see a problem the lack of any form of working door seals, will allow any water out faster than it can enter, apart from when wading possibly....;)
