P38A Broken oil dip stick tube removal

Thanks guys. Was hoping not to have to drop the sump as well but don't think there's a choice even if I get the tube out from above. Got to love 22 year old cars ;)

P38A Broken oil dip stick tube removal

Some advice would be appreciated please. Am in the process of doing the head gaskets on P38 4.0 Thor. The dipstick tube snapped pretty much level with the block when I tried to remove it. It is stuck in there solid. Someone mentioned a left hand drill bit would get it out. I tried this...

Hi @Henry_b. Is there any particular heat wrap for the exhaust manifold you recommend? Cheers

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Cheers @Scotiawhiskers. Great minds think alike ... have already got a stud kit as seems so much easier :) I will look into the degreaser, thank you for the recommendation.

    P38A Head bolt removal question

Thanks @kermit_rr. Removed the manifold in the end and the bolts were just fine as you suspected :) Head now off and ready for the other side. Have a few wobble joints so should be ok if a bit difficult. After reading up will probably take out the wheel arch as you suggest.

    P38A Head bolt removal question

Sorry should have been more specific but I mean the exhaust manifold. At the moment I have left it on as worries the bolts will snap. The issue is the socket doesn’t seem to sit straight on the rear lower passenger head bolt as it buts up to the exhaust manifold. Just wondered if anyone has...

    P38A Head bolt removal question

Hi Guys, A bit of advice needed please. I am in process of removing heads on 4.0 Thor. I am hoping to leave the manifold on for removal. Is it possible to get to the lower rear bolt on the passenger (LH) side with a normal socket? I am not sure if it is going on straight or at a slight angle...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Well today started stripping down my lovely 2002 4.0 P38 to replace the head gasket due to a small oil leak. After 165k miles a bit of tic that is well deserved. Bad light stopped play for today (shame the clocks went back) but think I found the leak :):) Upwards and onward tomorrow.....

P38A Head Gasket Kit & ARP Bolts ?

Thank you @Henry_b for your detailed advice, really appreciated. Good news is have already had the heat shields off all be it they have less bolts now than they started with lol. It doesn't look too bad a job. I did the valley pan six months ago so pretty sure it's ok and have tracked the (very...

P38A Head Gasket Kit & ARP Bolts ?

Thanks @kermit_rr . Definitely going on the ARP route. Will fix the breather in next day or two. Have some time off in a couple of weeks so may get after the head gasket then. Will just leave the rear main seal which I imagine is fun on a driveway in December :)

P38A Head Gasket Kit & ARP Bolts ?

Hi, I have a P38 2002 4.0 Thor. After 165k miles I think the head gasket has developed a small oil leak near the front on the drivers side. Very minor at moment and no issues at all and she runs perfectly. However I assume at this mileage it is only a matter of time before head gaskets need...

P38A Rear washer jet pipe 'lost' !

Hi. Have been an idiot and need some advice please. I removed the rear washer jet to unblock it and left a good inch or two of pipe hanging through the hole, no problem I thought. But when I went back the pipe had recessed back into the metal panel although I could just about see it. In trying...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Spent the day deciding whether or not to tackle the non working heated seats in my lovely P38. It's the last thing left ( excluding paintwork ) after a ton of work restoring her. Still can't decide if worth the effort .....

P38A Cruise control question ( wheel speed issue )

I unfortunately don't have nano com and my scan tool whilst specific for range rovers wouldn't connect to the cruise control, although I haven't tried since changing out the ecu so might be good now. Like you in real life I wouldn't use it that often but it was the last thing that doesn't work...

P38A Cruise control question ( wheel speed issue )

Thank you everyone for your advice and help, much appreciated :) Pleased to report all working now. Issues were bad ecu and also a dodgy connection in the inverter. A great forum for sharing knowledge and experience. To anyone reading the thread where they have followed the RAVE diagnostic...

P38A Cruise control question ( wheel speed issue )

Thanks Pete. I am trying to work out now if the engine computer can disable the cruise control on petrol models as there appears to be no check other than for the diesel in the RAVE fault testing procedure?
